Although I do think reports of Raceland's demise are probably greatly exaggerated, Boyd County can be tough at home. So the combination of my confidence in Boyd County playing well at home and everything I have read on here about Raceland falling apart at the seams is causing me to pick Boyd County in this one, 22-20. If I get this one wrong and ruin my 2009 perfect prediction record, then I am going to blame it on you Raceland fans taking sandbagging to an all new level this time. :-)

 

No sandbagging from me, just brutally honest. Now, IF the boys were awaken by the embarrassing performance, maybe the Rams we are use to will board the bus and head to Cannonsburg. If the self-centered, don't care attitude and afraid to hit somebody style continues, we won't be "Rollin' to Bowlin'", we'll be "Rollin' to 1-9."

The hardest part to swallow with regards to this team is that it is way faster than last year, talent level is close to the same as last year although we are not as physical. The intangibles are missing at this point which are leadership, intensity and will to win.

Again, I realize we had 4 starters out and it was a scrimmage. It does sound like I have hit the panic button, but to sit and watch this and to think everything is ok would be wrong. These boys have to remember, it was LAST year's team that was ranked #1 in 1A and won 12 straight games. This year's team has to earn their own rankings and respect. Will they?:idunno:

Ryan, I understand your scepticism, we do like to motivate our players, but we are being very honest given what we have seen in the pre-season.

 

Raceland has the talent to be a very good team, they have some dept, that Raceland is not accustomed to. All the parts are there for a very good team.

 

But, the players have to perform. And they have not shown that they are ready for the challenge. There are too many attitude problems right now, and that will kill a good team every time, quick, fast and in a hurry. The sad part is some of these attitude problems are from seniors that experience the success of last season. They should be the ones that are leading this team to success in 2009.

 

I spoke to one player yesterday, he asked what I thought. I said, "there are attitude problems", he agreed. I said, "It's your job to fix it". I meant it, it is the responsibility of every player, freshman or senior, starter or bench warmer, lineman or quarterback, to fix the attitude problems. And I pray that anyone that has these problems come Thursday, will be seated behind the coaches on Friday night. You won't hear me complain about loosing with players that want to be on the field, versus winning with players that just going though the motions.

 

I may sound too critical, but I will be there supporting Raceland in every game, and wishing them success. I hope that everyone is copacetic come Friday and we can put these problems behind us, but if we don't, a lot of people are going to be disappointed.

I am glad you added that last couple of sentences. As I stated in my first post in this thread, I am 100% a supporter of this team and school but I am extremely disappointed in how this team has come out to play to follow up last year's campaign. Saying that, it is not fair to compare the 2 teams. That team has 2 playing college football, 4 more that could have signed but chose not to and one that chose basketball over football. Then there is the Big Swede who has been contacted by Nebraska and Rutgers. So, is it fair to compare '08 and '09? No. But it is fair to expect a team that is playing in the footsteps of success to want step up and leave their mark as well.

I agree doc, I wouldn't hold this team to last year's standard, but all I expect is the same type effort. Every player should know, if they give their best effort, win or loose, no one will ever be disappointed in them. The effort and performance, right now, is the only thing that I, and many others, are upset with.

 

And, I promise, if this team gives a good effort, they will be good, they have the talent and ability, they just need to perform. That is it, it's not rocket science, just perform and put the team first instead of "Me" first. That is all it will take. I am sure the coaches have said the same thing.

 

The little things, baby, the little things. That is all this team needs to do. Do the little things that other teams don't do, and success will follow, it always does.

A determining factor in my prediction for Boyd County to win this game is not only the reports of the bad preseason the Rams have had, but also the injuries to Barr and Rister. I think if those 2 guys were back, then Raceland would probably win this game with bad attitudes or not. With them being out, though, I have to go with Boyd County.

 

That being said, and to show you how much research I've put into my prediction, does anyone know anything at all about Boyd County this year? I haven't heard much about who they are going to be depending on. I just figure they'll be OK because they are a much bigger school and I think they have a good coaching staff.

Kool-aid? I have had a lot of coffee from not sleeping well. I seriously considered putting the entire team and coaching staff on the prayer list at church. If it weren't for faith, I'd probably be on a suicide watch.

Again Ram, another very good post here. I was going to quote RP and give some of my opinios but there would have ben too much repeating what you have said in this one. I have bolded the points that I absolutely see myself and agree with.

Some people reading our critisizm of ths team may take it as us (fans) being fair weather or bailing out before a season starts. Anyone that knows any of us on here knows that is the absolute furthest thing from the truth. We will get on a team when we think they are playing bad and especially not putting out 110% effort on every play. Should Racelad be beaten when giving their all, playing hard and executing then that is o.k. with me, we just got whipped by the better team. When I have big problems is when they go out like they don't want to play, show no emotion or pride at all :irked: and just "lay down" or 'take the game for granted":madman:!

 

I personally have been a Raceland fan and going to Ram football games for around 37-40 years. Supporting Raceland Football is just like breathing around here, it is just what we do. Our Raceland fans get on the teams and players hard ( Ram, I may have even "yelled" at you when you played :sssh:...just a time or two ) but we also will be the frst to pat them on the back and praise them for good play and playing with "Ram Pride" from the first to the last play and "leave it all out on the field "every time out!

 

Undefeated or winless I will always support Raceland, ( I just hope it is not the latterthis season:eek:).I guess am old school like others. I am not politically correct and never will be and we tell it like it is/call it like we see it.

Your pick is probably a good one RP, I have a personal policy no to make any picks on Raceland's games. As for BCHS, I don't now anything other than what I have read on here and through the 'rumor mills" around the BC area. I don't necessarily put much into all the rumors. Evidently they are having some internal problems...:idunno: and I believe that their numbers are WAY down. Like I said, I don't believe very many of these rumors or talk.

I think that Boyd will come out fired up and ready to take Raceland out. Other than that I will say that Raceland had better go in ready to play, and not with the attitudes they have shown so far in this pre season :irked:or they will be 0-1 and staring at an Ashland team that no doubt will be ready to put them at 0-2.

One thing I will never accuse you Raceland fans of is being "fair weather". You are about the best fans a program could have. I think it is good that you are honest when the effort isn't up to par.
