Kentucky Crush

Featured Replies

Jenna Crittendon and Abbey Jump both from Ryle High School will be playing in the Run For the Roses Tournament in Georgetown, KY from July 9-11 for the Kentucky Crush out of Louisville. They will also be playing with the Crush in the Summer Derby Tournament and the Showcase in Louisville from July 22-26. Is there anymore local players in these showcase tournaments from Northern Kentucky?

The Summer Derby will have few scouts and a few top teams, but I highly doubt the Run for the Roses will have many of either because the top teams/players, and college scouts, will be scattered throughout DC, Chicago, Vegas, and Atlanta during that weekend.

I'm pretty sure Sandlin, Davis, Moss, and Sandfoss will be in Atlanta this weekend, then Louisville, and then on to Los Angeles.

The Cutter Hoopsters (see other thread) will be at the Run for Roses, then the Derby Classic (7/22) and maybe the Ohio Glory tourney in Cincy at the end of the month.

Don't coaching staffs split up and cover several tournaments? Unless things have changed since last year the "Run for the Roses" Tournament doesn't look to shabby. These are "the few schools" that attended the "Run for the Roses Tournament" last year. Someone may want to tell those ladies that that they may not have to fly out to California to be seen by UCLA.

UCLA was at the Run for the Roses last year as they watched all four of our teams play. Most do split up and cover as many events as possible. The Battle in the Boro next week at MTSU is a huge Nike event. One of the biggest we have ever played at as for as college D1 coaches that attend. In that I mean head coaches.

Who are the D1 players on the Crush?

Yes coaching staffs do split up and try to cover as many tournaments as possible. Why wouldn't they try to see as many players as they could when the opportunity is there?

But Crunch-time's point is still vaild. There are certain large tournaments that draw teams from across the country, teams that coaches know about and know about their players. Therefore their emphasis is on these larger tournaments and that's where you'll see the most head coaches and top recruiters from the DI schools.

For example at the Deep South Classic this April I saw literally dozens of top DI coaches including Pat Summit of Tennessee and Vivian Stringer of Rutgers. That weekend there were several top national tournaments going on and most of the head coaches were moving from one to the other unless they had a particular player or players at one site that they wanted to "be seen by". In other cases they left their chief recruiter to "be seen" while they moved to other sites. I say "to be seen" because there was no contact allowed and all the coaches could do was watch........and "be seen".

I guess the main point here is that the top coaches are going to go where there is the most top talent. That doesn't mean that about any tournament with talented players won't be visited by coaches but their emphasis is going to be where they get the most bang for their buck. Tournaments like the Deep South Classic, the Showtime National Championships in Atlanta, the Showtime National Championships West in LA, and tournaments run by Nike and others that have that national draw are those with the most players.
