Linksys Wireless problem

WEP. If I reset the router, I'm assuming I'd have to recreate the network used by my house, create a new password to secure it, etc?

Correct...If I were you, I'd use WPA...its much easier to deal with

What's the difference and how do you make that decision? I wasn't the one who originally set up the network and router.

I'm not sure of the difference, but you can set it up with WPA when you set up the router

Where are you being asked for this password?

I've never used a linksys router that asked for a password everytime you access it. You have to enter a key when you first setup the network on your computer, if you want a secure connection, but unless you are telling the machine not to remember it, that info should stay with your computer. When you return to that network, it should connect right up, unless the router itself has been changed.

This sounds like a windows or internet provider password. Not a password request from the router. Is there anyway you could post a screen shot of the password request?

That's the issue, it's not asking me for a password (which would be the first time I've accessed this network from my new laptop). So, it just tries to connect without prompting me for a password (which it should do since it's the first time). I'm aware that after the first time I enter the password, it won't ask me for it everytime I use that network. It's just not asking me for the password from the get-go...

Not necessarily. Sometimes the computer simply will not connect to the router, especially if it has been on another network. There is only so much I can do without sitting in front of the computer, since I can't remote log in to it.

Your best bet is to go to the Linksys Knowledge Base....

I know I'm glad I can just call my oldest son. :D
