How are they to big of a 2A school to make it, there are 3A schools in the All A now.

I was just going on the above post saying that they couldn't compete as a large 2A school, and obviously, any 2A school is eligible for the All A because there are 3A schools in it. Russell will be competing in the All A this year.

They competed in the "A" last year (won the regional). They will be too big next year (or so I am told).

 

Enrollment for the "A" is determined from the previous October's enrollment. Football (KHSAA) does not realign as much as the "A" does.

The All A is the smallest 125 schools no matter what the enrollment is. If a school that falls in the 125 opts out, then the next smallest school is invited to play. And so on.

BTW, my 8th region rep told me that "opt outs" don't put new (larger) schools in. Maybe he's wrong.

Speaking of the 8th region all "A", who looks to be a front runner for making it to Richmond? I would say if Owen gets good gaurd play watch out, but Gallatin could do well and Corner Stone will shock lots of people!

Larger schools do not get in if a smaller school chooses to opt out, that is absurd.

The All A is the smallest 125 schools no matter what the enrollment is? How exactly would that work, it really makes no sense at all! Classes are based completely on enrollment. By this logic, any school could play in the Class "A, which in turn would not make it Class "A"!

My post does not say anything about them being a large 2A school. It is quite difficult to be a large 2A school one year after competing in the Class "A" state tourney. That would be one heckuva an enrollment gain for Henry County.

I know what you mean. It's werid to be in the All "A" one year and not the next, but Henry County is between Trimble and Shelby. Often times the parents of upset children will send their kids to Henry right after school starts hoping for something better. I think Henry is a good ob for a young educated coach to get a hold of. Holland has left some good talent and has rebuilt basketball at Henry.

I agree, however it is all relative. The more kids you have the larger pool to choose from, you just don't have to find as much talent to be competeitive in basketball. However, it is still relative.

But, I didn't know that basketball had classes, so where are the 2A and the 3A comments coming from?

Those comments are coming from people on this forum talking about Henry County and them being 3A in football, which they certainly are. Actually Ram I think you posted that if I am correct.

 

However, in basketball last season they competed in the Class "A" regional and state tournaments and this upcoming season they will not because in basketball they will have grown to a 2A school.

Apparently, it is that difficult, I have never heard of a 2A basketball team in the state of Kentucky. Who are all the 2A teams?

The All A isn't based on a class, per se, because there aren't any classes in basketball. The way it's decided is this:

 

The 125 schools with the smallest enrollments comprise the "All A". No matter what the classification for any other sport is, if their enrollment puts them into the bottom 125 of the total number of schools, they are "All A" basketball. There isn't a finite number in the enrollment figure. It's just the bottom 125 in enrollment, regardless of the actual number. The number just has to be less than schools 126+ on the list.
