hja1224 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Hammons was on his game early as he struck out 9 in the first 4 innings with one unearned run. The first baseman missed a slow roller from the Cooper number nine hitter, then lead-off Ryan Thompson hit a bomb to center for a triple to score Cooper's first run. Ludlow would go up 3-1 on some nice hitting from the top of their line-up. The fifth is when Hammons ran into trouble by a few walks, a few bloops, and a double off the fence in left field by Wilkie. He left the game down 4-3 and the bases loaded with no outs. The reliever gave up those three plus one of his own to be down 8-3. Hammons 4+ innings, seven runs. The Murray State scout had him at 83 on the radar gun. As has been the case this year Cooper has their one bad inning and Ludlow ties the game on several hits, walks, etc.. But, this time Cooper scores two more and hangs on for the win.
sportsnut859 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Murray State, Mt. St. Joe's, and the Cubs all had scouts there for Hammons. Pretty impressive. The Cubs and The Mount plan to attend the Dixie game on Thursday. (weather permitting)

cougarball89 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Why does the newspaper today show Shelton, not Hammons as the losing pitcher?
hja1224 Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 Why does the newspaper today show Shelton, not Hammons as the losing pitcher? When Hammons left the game is was 8-3 Cooper. Ludlow then eventually tied the game at 8-8 which gets Hammons off the hook.

Mr.80 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) How will a less than stellar outing for Hammons affect his chances with these recruiters? He still had 10 K's in 4 innings which is what the Cubs scout recorded. From what I know, which isn't a lot, the scouts both college and pro don't just look at the actual performance but more at the player. They are looking for ability and what kind of potential they have as a player. They know that everyone is going to have a bad game once in a while. I know if it was me and I had 2 college scouts and 1 pro scout sitting there watching me I wouldn't have been able to do anything right but I think Hammons did a pretty good job recording his typical double digit K's. Good to hear. It would be horrible if they based the entire decision on just one recruiting visit.
twenty per Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Kinda off topic but can anyone give me Cooper's record? I've seen them on the winnig side a few times and it just sparked my interest.
