This game will take place on Saturday morning at Applebee's Stadium in Lexington. I know absolutely nothing about Murray so someone from out west can fill me in on what kind of team they are.

 

I do know Middlesboro has good pitching and at times, pretty good hitting with very average defense. It would depend on who they pitch for me to predict whether or not they would win this game.

I say Middlesboro takes this one 3-1.

They're playing really good baseball right now and over the last 14 games they've won 12 of em only losing to Trigg County and 16-3 Marshall County 3-2.

 

I don't have any stats or anything but IMO this game will be a good one and hopefully the Jackets can pull it out...

Mike Johnson, Murray's coach, is considered one of the better ones in western Kentucky. It isn't like Middlesboro will have a huge edge in that area.

Murray will probably go with righty Roman Kelly, a senior that has had a very good season. This is a team that likes to run and put pressure on the defense.

 

Murray made it to Applebee's last year but lost to a pretty good Paintsville team in the first round. They also had a lot of distractions because it was their prom weekend, and there was some controversy within the team about that.

 

Murray has fairly good pitching depth, so a run to the finals isn't out of the question, but they've got to get by Middlesboro first.

I don't know anything about Johnson but I did check the KHSBCA website and Powell is a member of the Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 2000.

I also see that his teams have been to the Final Four 4 times during his tenure. His last two times were in 1999 and 2002. Murray hasn't even been to the Final Four since 1979 but I don't know whether or not Johnson was the coach then.

I see no clear cut favority by any means. Southeast_bell...I'm surprised that someone from that area would call Middlesbiri the definite underdog.
