Summer baseball is truly where it is at, as almost at every game, there are plenty of scouts Pro and College attending. The quality of the teams and the players, are much better than in the HS game.

 

If you are good you might be found but if you play against or for a Ryle, Boone, Conner or a CovCath (and some others too) or better yet go play in tournerys like the LIT you will have a much better chance to be found.

 

Example if you played against CovCath with Maile or Boone with Faris, just think how many pro/college scouts follow those two young men, and if you had a great day against them and or their teams you just helped yourself big time.

 

Hammons is indeed a special kid, but just think how much more ink/press/looks he would have gotten, if he attended a bigger school. Is it fair? No! But that's just how it is....

And thats the exact reason why we see the same teams year in and year out in all three major sports be good in this area. We never see a team stay up with them after a year or two. That is cause every now and then these small schools get lucky and their groups of kids all stay together and you see them compete and beat the bigger schools. Just like in 2004 that whole Ludlow group stayed together from knothole to high school, and they accomplished conference championship, district championship, and making the region a few times. While still in the tough 35th district with CovCath, Holy Cross, etc. That team though was just missing one or two things to having a legit chance for the 9th region title in 2004. That player might have been Phil Brockman a guy who played knothole his whole life with all those guys. It might just be one or two players leaving, but those one or two players that leave, and don't stay together creates wholes who stop smaller schools like that from having a real chance at winning the region, etc. Then those one or two guys who leave, end up filling a whole or two that one of the bigger schools needed fill. That is why you always see the same schools year in and year out do good. They benefit from having kids move into their area, or decide to go to their school right before high school. I mean I know they have a lot of their own home grown kids to, but just one or two kids who make the difference between a region championship type team, or just a good team. I not even going to get into the indirect recruiting aspect of this thing that goes into high school sports. Its just not right how things are. If parents dont move these kids, it would put together very talented teams, and allow the smaller schools to go out and play much bigger competition and get them noticed.

 

This is way off subject now so I will quit. There are just a lot of things that happen in high school sports that just isn't right. But back to this thread, it was just a great performance by Hammons. 18 strikeouts is unbelievable.:thumb:

Now understand I think the kid is good but please give me his stats when he pitches against Bellevue, Lloyd Memorial or the next Boone County game. If he gets double digits K's against Boone, then mark me down as Hammons being very, very, very good.

He didn't pitch the Boone County game due to having pitched the Holy Cross game a couple days before. He will be pitching the Lloyd game this Saturday.

I think he would be a lot better with a better defense as well. There have been a lot of errors from that Ludlow D.
