Still having Problems with the New Football Rule

Featured Replies

Could someone explain the new rule about how the summer practice is different for football then years past. Can they have passing league games prior to July 15th? How many full pad practices can they have before their first scrimmage? How many total? What can they do in June?

As far as I understand the "7 on 7" --passing part of it: Inter-School passing competition will no longer be permitted during the month of June. It may be allowed during July. Someone with better and more complete knowlege needs to jump in here. Sorry couldnt help more.

Passing League competition between schools can only take place after the dead period. I am not sure what the ending date for that is.

June you can still work, but only against your own team.

On the KHSAA website, there is a calculator for determining when you can put pads on based on the first day of school for students:

Hope this helps!

If you play another team AFTER July 15th, is it counted as a "scrimmage"?

No it is not.

No it is not.

What does the KHSAA use to determine a team's two scrimmages? I'm assuming it's in the two weeks leading up to a team's first game, or first week of official games statewide.

Is any 11-on-11 competition after July 15 considered a scrimmage? Are seven-on-seven passing games allowed within two weeks of opening weekend?

Probably stupid questions to you Chief, but I'm trying to get a full understanding of the new rules, and you're a guy I trust will know.

I am not sure, but I think you can do 7 on 7 until your date that you can put on full pads. To be sure, contact Julian Tackett at the KHSAA. Also, the KHSAA generally sends our reminders on practice restrictions and guidelines some time in the spring.
