Rice and Mayfield played significantly and are ready to step into the starting rotation for the Dogs. With the trio returning for one last run, I see no reason not to put them number one.

 

 

I will give you that Rice played significant minutes but would hesitate to say Mayfield played a lot of meaningful minutes this season.

 

Just my opinion but the loss of Riley, Housley and D Johnson is going to be tough to make up. Having Rico and Riley share the ball handling duties was a huge benefit for the team. I don't think Mayfield is ready to step into the Riley role just yet

 

I think you rate them #1 based on the big three going into preseason and hope that they have some players play well in their expanded roles.

We have a few other PGs we are looking at.

 

But I do see Shelby Valley as being a top team, top 5? Maybe, but definitely top 10. Taylor is getting better each game, had 15 rebounds Vs Elliott, and getting his confidence back since his injury last year. Tyler is a very nice shooter with a lot of range who will only get better, then throw in Justice and Hatfield.

Hard to get a bona fide top 5 anymore because of all the player movement and transfers that go on before October 15th.

I agree....Riley's 3 point shooting and the combination of Dom and Housely's defense will be missed, but the same thing was said after last year as well when they lost 7 seniors from a state runner up team and the year before when they lost their heralded 07 class with Rice, Jefferson, and Hill who led them to the state semi's.

 

I've followed Holmes the past three years during their state runs and had my doubts about them, but after this past year, I just can't doubt them anymore after the way the big 3 led them to the state title.
