13th Region Tournament Semi-Final South Laurel vs. Middlesboro

Interesting tidbits in the article - The Cardinals are 13-0 in regional tournament games dating back to 2005 and 21-1 in region tournaments since 2001.

“We’re not going to overlook them,” Wright said. “When you get this far, we know they aren’t going to be any easy ones. They are an excellent team. We’ve only faced one team that compares to their athleticism and that’s Seneca. They are always attacking on offense and defense.

“They know how to score and are very dangerous,” he added. “Nick Smith is one of the best shooters around and obviously (Antwan) Brown and (Blain) Green know how to score, too. We’ve got our hands full.”

Many expect the Cardinals to try to slow down the pace. South Laurel is 12-1 this season when holding opponents under 60 points and 10-7 when opponents score more than 61 points.

“We can run when we need to, but we’ve not had to try to have that type of a high octane offense this year,” Wright said. “Middlesboro is better than what people believe and like I said before, there are no easy ones this time of the year.”

I would think that South Laurel will cruise in this one, but if it gets tight they have uncharacteristically missed some crucial foul shots late in their last few games. Overall I think Middlesboro has the talent to play with South Laurel, but I just don’t think they have an answer for St. Johns in the middle.

It's Matt St. John:thumb:

M'boro may be a hand full tonight, but its the time of year that I can't pick against South. South 61 M'boro 52.

South will change up the defense's and leave M'boro taking poor contested shots. They will find a way to contain Brown. SL will win by 10+.

I don't know if Brown is who I would be worried about. Nick Smith is a stud, too.
