February 9, 200917 yr Bracken County 5th Grade team hosts and wins their own tournament. Bracken Co. Thunder won the final game last night by three in overtime over Fleming Co. Fleming Co. beat Mason County (Mack) in the first round while Bracken pushed out Pendleton County. In the Semi Finals Fleming County sent Clark Co. home after being down by 13 with a display of three pointers to put the game in OT. They move on to the championship game, winning by three. Bracken Co. walked off the hardwood with a strong victory over Mason Co. (Bickley). The finals was a excellent game with the margin not being more than 6 by either team. Congrats to the Thunder team and to Fleming Co. I was at the tournament on Sunday, and to see a team play 3 games in four hours was amazing. The Thunder ball players truly showed how you leave it all on the floor. They showed true heart, and gave it their all through every game. My hats off to those kids. And I can't wait to see them playing Polar Bear basketball.:notworthy:

February 9, 200917 yr No Mason Co. (Sweeney)????? No Mason County(Sweeney) in this particular tournament, but Bracken County Thunder beat them in the semi finals of the tournament the weekend before this before losing to Montgomery County in the finals. Not bad for a small County school that has two 4th graders starting and goes only 7 players deep. Played the Omega traveling team twice this year, with only very poor free throw shooting the difference in victory both times. Only big loss this year was against the Lexington Blaze, who beat Mason County 1 by the exact same score in the same tournament

( Sweeney) play in it every year. I think it would be a good experience for the Thunder to play some other teams other than the "County AAU Teams"..:thumb:

February 10, 200917 yr You know all the kids from Omega are from Campbell Co..It seems you always want to bring up the small county thing every time you play and are competitve against someone...:deadhorse: Why aren't they called Campbell County Omega then? What's with the Omega and Wolf Pack names if these kids all attend the same school?, would make it easier for one to not assume that the kids come from all over. (Highlands Wolf Pack, anything would suffice) At least all the Mason County traveling teams put the County on the name. Only bring up the small town issue because the last I saw Omega(Campbell County?), they went about 12 deep(2 good teams really),as does Mason County 1, with all 5th graders(11 or 12 year olds?). Bracken's 7 players are all 10,except for one. That's really why made the non-issue, same county thing.:deadhorse:
February 10, 200917 yr Author To my knowledge Mason Co. Sweeney was one of the first to be invited but chose not to play. Other than that AAU tournaments are very expensive and Bracken Co. has to pay their own way everywhere they go. Sorry if Bracken County's win was a minor victory in your eyes raiderbird!

They really aren't that expensive $150.00 - $200.00 for most...BCI in Florence is a $100.00 what $10.00 a kid..It really isn't that far from Bracken Co.

Trey Roseberry from Pendleton County has been playing on it for most of the winter.

Why would they put a county name for their team???
February 11, 200917 yr Not true. Trey Roseberry from Pendleton County has been playing on it for most of the winter. You got me..I forgot about Trey...He hasn't played that much this year he has had some health issues...
