Tell the grocery store or department store that I really didn't buy anything.

Ask them if they're paying bills with my "fake" purchases.

They're paying their bills the same way you are making your "fake" purchases. No one is actually paying anything, anywhere. Credit, credit, credit.

The mistake in your logic is that you are saying that the grocery store is not getting any money because the customer is not paying off his/her credit card debt. Not true. The grocery store gets paid immediately by the credit card issuer less about a 2% or 3% fee. There is no risk for them.

I hope the stimulus will address the housing issue. I have heard that part of the stimulus package may get rates down to 4% and that is exactly what we need. Its like this, some cannot get loans or refinance because of their FICO score. Well the bottom line is if you already have a mortgage at 6 percent why would you not be able to get a conforming loan at 4% ? This is going to do nothing but allow you more cash flow which at minimum would allow you to stay or get current on your mortgage. I can understand have tougher limits on loans but the re fi is a no brainer.

All In, Why are you wondering specifically about pop and candy prices?

Used to love my pop and candy bar, when they were 75 cents and 40 cents respectively, guess I'll just have to put it on a credit card next time at gas station:thumb:

As an Mt Dew addict I can feel your pain. Unfortunately it hasn't gotten to the point of being "too expensive" yet.

How do you figure? Many people pay off their credit card entirely. Those that couldn't meet the 50%, simply wouldn't have credit cards. How is their failure to pay 50% any different than what will be their ultimate failure to be able to pay what they owe plus interest?

DragonFire, guess me and you are the only ones that see things the same way.

There are sale times when you can buy 2- 2 liter bottles for almost the price of one 20-22 ounce bottle out of the machine

Diet Dew is my addiction of choice!

You and DF are focusing on the concept of someone not getting paid. No question someone will lose out. It could be the credit card company who has the ultimate liability. It could be a bank that buys the debt in the form a security.

However, the original issue posed dealt with the idea of requiring consumers to pay off 50% of their debt and what the result might be.

Two different issues.

Its my opinion that the result would be negative overall. Why? Kroger's wouldn't sell as many groceries. The movie theater wouldn't sell as many tickets. The repair shop wouldn't fix as many cars. Those all have people attached to them in the form of jobs.

It requires a sense of personal responsibility...not everyone has that.

Sams, go to Sams. You can get the big bottles , I think 12 of them for less than what you would pay buying them individually.
