High profile tourney and able to call a lot of games in a short period of time is very financially lucrative.

Totally agree that the refs did not determine the outcome of the game and Corbin is a far superior team. The fact still remains that Corbin is a very physcial team playing full court man in 3rd quarter. W'burg is not a physical team playing 1/2 court zone in 3rd quarter. 10 fouls called against W'burg and 4 called against Corbin. That should not happen. I admit that Corbin wins this game no matter how many fouls are called either way. Problem is that Corbin ALWAYS gets preferential treatment. Is ALWAYS allowed to handcheck, grab, hold, etc. I dream of the day that some officials have the guts to call the handchecks and holds constantly in the early part of the game to try to get Corbin to play the way the game the way it was meant to be played. I don't blame Corbin's players or coaches 1 bit. A coach would be crazy to not have players handcheck and hold knowing that they are not going to get called for it.

 

You apparently have not seen either Whitley or South Laurel play if you think Corbin does a lot of hand checking. Go watch a game in Central Ky and see how much more physical teams such as Scott Co., Lex Cath., etc play. The game is called much more loosely today than how it used to be called, you have to adjust or get left behind.

 

Williamsburg did a good job of getting Teague the ball in scoring position during the first half, Corbin's pressure on the ball was better and Williamsburg was not able to get the same looks in the second half. I think the Yellow Jackets can take a lot from this game and maybe work on a couple of weaknesses and may be able to give Corbin a run for their money if they meet in the district tourney.

I have seen them play and totally agree with you. Whitley even more than SL. The Lebanion kid for Whitley is a prime example. He is not quick enough to defend guards so he simply stops them with his hands long enough for him to defend them when they try to blow by.

 

Why has the game changed like that? Have officials been told to allow the hand checking and holding? To me, rules of the game are rules of the game. If handchecking is a foul, then call it, on everyone, all the time. If that happened, then the game would change back to the way it was meant to be played. Refs should not adjuist to players, players should adjust to refs. Umps should not adjust their strike zone to each pitcher. Pitchers ahve to adjust their locations to the umps strike zone.

Just wanted to mention that I was not bashing Lebanion. He is great athlete and he utilizes his strength to compensate for his lack of quickness...But again, if handchecking is supposed to be a fould, then call it and they will eventually stop.

Saragis calls a foul in the 3rd on an obvious jump ball. W'burg kid starts jawing, another W'burg kid steps in to stop him. Jawing W'burg kid pushes his teammate away that was trying to calm him down and Saragis calls a "T" on him for pushing his own teammate. Wander if you can get a personal foul for fouling your teammate also?

The player that got the technical needs to keep his mouth shut and play, but it was still a bad call.

Cawoodball I was at a game at Cawood a few years back sitting close to the floor and told a ref that he made a bad call...He turned to me and said

"buddy your team ain't no good", I said what does that have to do with the bad call....Just saying....

For the record, I've not been a Cawood ball player in a while!

I agree that Saragas is a good man, and I laugh at the thought of him being in a secret society to help Corbin or keep Williamsburg down.

Officiating had nothing to do with the outcome, Corbin is bigger, better, stronger and would win 10 out of 10 games against W'burg by 20 points...Give me a break, there is no excuse for a poorly called

3rd quarter...I have watched a lot of HS basketball over the years and the great teams always seem to get the calls when playing a lesser opponents when they don't need them...The Hounds have a great team and have a chance to play on Saturday at Rupp, best of luck...

I do not think it was a poorly called 3rd quarter. I think the Hounds got a wakeup call at halftime and decide to play with a bit more effort. Williamsburg lost composure in the 3rd and wilted at the first sign of advertisy IMO. How many technicals has the one player who was T'd up already received this season? I think his verbal expressions led to the Technical more than his physical actions. As a result a close game became a wide margin in a few short trips down the floor. I would also agree that the shot selection of the Jackets worsened during this stretch as well. Good thing about it is these two teams will matchup in a couple of weeks at Gillium gym.

Could very well have been verbal expressions, I was not close enough to hear. I was able to see that the shove was to his own team mate and not a Corbin player.

 

I don't know if it was worsened shot selection or if Corbin prevented WHS from getting the ball to Teague like they did in the 1st half hence causing the Jackets to settle for worse shots.

You could be onto something there Sportfan. Hounds are a very strong team, that has obviously been well conditioned in the weightroom by their coaches. The normal bumps and body contact does not seem to bother them as compared to most teams in the 13th. After playing South on Monday, report back to BGP about the calls and no calls and see if your opinion changes.

 

 

Teague is a nice player on the blocks. If he got more touches in the second half the result could have been different.

I understand your point. I should have paid more attention to the qualifiers you put in your statements.

 

I also have a great deal of respect for the WHS program. I suppose my comment was more related to the rumblings of undeducated fans that always seem to find a seat right next to me as opposed to the actual team. And yes, we all have arrogant and rude fans - most of whom have never stepped foot on a court.

 

Don't get me wrong - I'm a Redhound, but I'm also reasonable enough to acknowledge a good point when one is made. And you my friend, make a good one.
