I'm sorry, the big 11 has 8 wins 11 losses.

 

I am not using semantics with ND. They have to finish in the top 8 to get into a BCS game. A non BCS conference team has to win their conference and finish in the top 12.

 

A non BCS team has to essentially go un-defeated to finish in the top 12, if Notre Dame goes 10-2 they're in.

ND is not a BCS school. They have to meet certain critiria just like the mid majors. And actually it is tougher for them to get in then a non BCS conference school.

9 wins and in....they gave up some big $$$ for when they get in, but now they get $$$$ every year.

They have to have 9 wins to qualify for an at large but so does any team. They have to finish in the top 8 for an automatic.

That's what I was getting to....they gave up some of the money of the HUGE payday for when they get in...but now get millions every year whether they get in or not.

Louisville was fresh off of a one loss season, a BCS conference championship, and an Orange Bowl victory. That is a VERY quality non conference opponent.

 

Michigan isn't one of those "powers". :irked::irked:

 

The only thing I can tell you on the last part is to contact the AD for USC or Utah. USC has a pretty full non-conference slate...I don't think they would have much room.

I will concede they were trying to do something with Michigan but things didn't work out. You can't get credit for beating a team that was suppose to be good. If they did get USC on the schedule and USC ends up going 2-10 should that count as a good win?

Notre Dame was 9-2 in 2000 and got in, finished 9-3..

Notre Dame was 9-2 in 2005 and got in, finished 9-3..(beating only Michigan as a quality win)

Notre Dame was 10-2 in 2006 and got in, finished 10-3..(got waxed in all 3 losses, beat no "good" teams)

If Notre Dame goes 9-3 they'd likely get in.

The only team in the top 10 with 3 losses this year is tOSU and they are at 10. After ND last two beat downs in BCS games I would think they would need help at 9-3.

I would have agreed had they not been demolished in their last two showings. They aren't getting votes on name alone anymore. They are going to have to beat some good teams. Look at your examples above, in none of those did they have 3 losses.

BCS conferences get their preferential treatment because throughout history the best teams have been in those conferences. From year to year some of these conferences are "down". Like right now I bet most people would agree that the Big East, ACC, and Big Ten are down. Well they are still getting in and logic would say that they aren't being faulted when their conference is down because they still get an automatic berth. Utah has scheduled teams that are traditionally good...so they are doing their part. Without a playoff you can't fault a team when they make an honest effort and their opponent doesn't follow through (like Louisville and Michigan both have done). Utah got a schedule together that should get them into the National Championship game if they win out. They beat four bowl teams, two teams currently in the top 15, and finished undefeated. They did their part and like other teams they shouldn't be faulted if they honestly scheduled a BCS caliber schedule, which I believe Utah did.

I agree that you can't fault a team for trying to schedule these teams but you sure can't reward them if it doesn't pan out. And I agree about the BCS conference teams getting a pass when they are down but they are the ones bringing in the money.
