Actually, Messer was the leading scorer with 16. Hall had 10. When they give Messer the chance to be on the floor he scores well, unfortunately because of the current situation at County, Messer rarely sees the floor and when he does it's only for a minute or two.

I agree I'd play the big boy (Messer) as long as he was able to breath. He was nearly unstoppable against Raceland, but Wooten didn't even play him until late in the 1st quarter. This kid should not only be starting for the Lions, but finishing games as well.

What changed for each team from last week?

 

I watched the Boyd/Raceland game and I really felt Boyd was at least 10 pts better. Of course that was without Raceland's PG. He must be a strong player or something else really changed.

Trevor was still hurting from the shot he took from the night before and Boyd did not have a answer for Boyles. Might have played Barrett a little more, he is a very hustle kind of a kid, but did not really have anybody to turn to for leadership with the absence of Wilson. The Spicer kid did a nice job on Boyles, but I think this is his 1st year of basketball. Really no one to look to on bench or in starting line-up for any answers.

I guess the big question is what they consider a "Young player"?

I was unaware that Trevor was still hurting from the shot he took in the previous game. But he played quite a bit in the second half and looked pretty productive to me (managing to score 10 points). The other player i was talking about is the Senior point guard for Boyd (not sure on the name). He didn't play much at all for the lions in the first half but played the majority of the second half. I didn't really understand the substitution method. When Trevor and the other Senior were on the court together, the lions looked like a completely different team. Again, if you want to get younger players experience, do it in the second half when you have a lead, not in the first half when the other team is increasing the scoring margin.

Well I did not think the problem was the point guard, whether young or old or in between, all did a nice job when given the chance, but when nobody's moving in a motion offense, then that makes the point guards job twice as hard to distribute the ball to where it goes.

Remember the movie Hoosiers? Everyone in the movie was down on Gene Hackman as a coach, they couldnt understand what he was trying to accomplish until towards the end of the movie, then all of a sudden they (Grumblers) became faithful supporters.

 

Dave Wooten needs time to develop and instruct these kids in how they should play the game. It will not happen over night. Boyd County's Dominating Empire did not collapse over night and it will not be rebuilt over night. Give the coach a chance. That chance may take 2-3 years.

 

Many have griped because he plays a full court man to man defense and gets beat, so what is the alternative? Set back in a mickey mouse 2/3 Zone and get beat? Just imagine a team playing a 2/3 zone against Elliot County. He is doing a great job considering what has been going on in the feeder program for the last 15 years.

 

What he really needs is a some of the BC Complainers to step up and help him coach and teach them the "Old Picket Fence" play and please dont get caught watching the paint dry.

I believe a Coach's Support from the Fans is earned, the same way a Coach expects results out of a player.:thumb:

 

I believe I have heard more grumbling this year, then any other year.

 

I am no coach, nor claim to be, but do see a lot of guys on the bench that could contribute with a little confidence. A coaches job is to instill confidence in his players, not bring them down. Take for instance the big 6-8 kid. I do not know the whole situation, but he has scored double digits in the games he was allowed to play in.

 

Hope Boyd Co gets it turned around quick.

No, unfortunately the BC Staff would love to see a Ramey home kid stroll in. That would make their job a whole lot easier and they would not have to improve the skills of the existing players. That has been our problem for years, we relied on having Ramey home kids. Now that we dont have any multi-talented Ramey home kid in the system, then we are relying on our feeder system and our own coaching, and now you seen where that has gotten us.

When your team loses by 15 to a team that is less talented than you, I'm not sure that it can be considered a "nice job." The reason that no one was moving on offense was because the team was without the leadership of the senior point guard. If the team is not moving or doing the correct things then it is the coaches responsibility to make adjustments. Not pull out the Senior and put an even more inexperienced point guard in the game.

Wondered why he was benched then? Is this the same kid that sacrificed all other sports to spend the Summer working with the Basketball Staff?

 

Anyone know if all Boyd's players will be available for next game? Any viruses still floating around or any injuries?
