Highlands 59 St. Henry 50

Highlands JV won. don't recall the score sorry.

Scary thing is, as deep as they are right now, they aren't even at full strength yet. Grubbs and Co. are still missing due to football.

I agree, having Grubbs and Welz who are both 6'5+ is going to help on the boards tremendously. I think at this point they are rebounding by committee.

Kowolonek is very active on the boards and hustles, which is a big part of rebounding. He has nice timing.

A lot of rebounding is just heart and desire and not worrying about how many points you score. Rebounding and defense are two of the most important things that win basketball games, even though scorers always get the most publicity.

BTW, Kowolonek is both a scorer and a rebounder (many of the scores coming from boards). But he is willing to get both O and D boards. Some players aren't as interested in doing the D rebounding because it doesn't translate to points for them.

I'll take rebounding and defense over shooting any day. Just like in football, baseball, and other sports, some scoring is needed, but defense wins championships.

Nice points.:thumb: My son in an AAU game the other night took zero shots but had 6 boards and played stellar defense in an OT win. Things you dont see in the books but are key to victories.

The fact that Stephen K does many things like this well just further exemplifies him being an all around great player.

Agree. Kids don't usually get enough recognition for holding the player they are guarding to minimal points, making steals, getting defensive rebounds, causing turnovers, playing smart, etc. Things like these epitomize team players. The more players you have like this on a team, the better, IMO. These types of things rarely get mentioned in newspapers or on blogs. Scoring for its own sake can be a very selfish and destructive pursuit to a team. A player who is willing to play an unsung role for his team is invaluable. Obviously, it is hard to play against a team with several well rounded players.
