December 3, 200817 yr It wouldn't have surprised me either way, but I had a feeling ND would keep Weis around for one more year. And, I think that's the best move all the way around. First, I think you give Weis another year and give him the opportunity to coach a roster that is pretty much all his guys, with some more depth, quality and experience in the upper class. Second, from a PR perspective, I think the school goes from a potential no-win situation, to a no-lose situation. If they fire Weis this year, they'll hear all the talk about ND being "just another school". People will question whether it was the right move, and who knows how the coaching search would go. On the flipside, give him another year and two things can happen...1) they start to turn things around and play well or 2) they're really bad again and nobody will question the firing of Weis at that point.
December 3, 200817 yr I would bet that ND couldn't get the guy they wanted and instead of having to settle for their 5th or 6th option like they have done the last two times they hired a coach figured they needed to weight and work on sealing the deal before the can send one packing. Just my thoughts.
