History of Ashland football

Featured Replies

Could someone please post some information about the Ashland program's history? I know that they have a storied past and I believe that one of their squads (maybe back in the 1930s) actually won a mythical national title.

You are correct in your statement of the Ashland Tradition and past. The Tomcats has as much or more tradition than anyone in the state. As for the specific numbers you may want to check with BGP members Painter or Graybeard. Here are a couple of links that might interest you. With the latter "3 men standing" article being one on members of the 37' team. The first being on Legendary Tomcat and coach Herb Conley.

Great stuff!! Now I wish the game Friday night was in Ashland. I'd love to see that field.

(Not that I won't take a home playoff game, of course.;))

The tomcats definately have the best field in our area! I loved playing there. It's truely a great football atmosphere.

Highlands beat Ashland in 1943 for the Mythical Championship.:thumb:

Great articles on Ashland, particularly the one about Coach Conley. He coached me in the Ky East West All Star game in 76. I remember being very impressed with him. Seemed like a great coach and all around nice guy. I assume he's still living and will travel to Ft. T for the game this Friday.

Ashland does have a very grand and distinguised football history. I remember hearing about how good they were from the time I was a very young lad. Glad we are getting the opportunity to match up with them. I'm sure that the history and pride will have the Tomcats playing the game of their lives against Highlands. Not often that two programs with such tradition and history of success get to match up in the playoffs.

Does anybody have any of the Ashland school football team records year by year?

Love Ashlands' stadium. It is a "classic".:thumb:
