Gilliam, Harlan Co. RB

Featured Replies

I have a few thoughts forthe Harlan Co. fans and HDE. Gilliam has only 4 or 5 yards from having 1700 and 140 points scored for 08. I would like to see the top 5 all-time rushing list for Harlan co. I would say he is around 4000 or more for his career. I would have to think he would finish in the top 3 or 4 all-time. I can only think of two backs that could have more yards for a career than Gilliam and that would be Russell (Evarts) and Hensley (Cawood). HDE this would be a great topic for sports. Listing and giving some stats from the past and present day great backs in Harlan Co. history.:thumb:

Pretty impressive

Thus far he has played in 34 games in 3 years. He has 3,591 yards and 59 touchdowns through 29 of those games. Those numbers only represent 29 games played so we are missing his entire freshmen year and 5 games from his 10th grade through 11th grade. With more games to be played! I would guess he is in the neighborhood of around 4,400 yards for 4 years, just a guess though.

He is also getting very close to getting into the record books for YPC. He is currently at 9.6 yards per carry, pretty impresive to keep that number up after 10 games.

Good stats we need HDE to get us the results from his Freshman year.:thumb:

I am also missing his 2 of his regular season games his 10th and 11th grade year and all of his playoff performances.

He is a very tough runner. I saw him last year and he was a horse. It sounds like he has got faster and stronger this year.

I am going to give a list of backs in which I think may have 3,000 or more yards for a career in Harlan Co.

Russell- Evarts, had over 7,000

David Hensley- Cawood

Tommie Hensley- Cawood

TJ Dunson- Harlan High School

H. Fields- Cawood

Tinsley- Cumberland or Maclahan for Cumberland also ( not sure on the spelling of his name). I think he played in the 80's.

I wish HDE would see this post, or 3 Wishes gather more stats. I would have to think Gilliam would be 2 or 3 on this list.

I see it.

That's a tough job though. The Enterprise didn't begin keeping up with stats until the 1990s.

I think we can find all of Gilliam's numbers though.

Russell will be first.

David Hensley had some good numbers.

Tommy Hensley was very good but Cawood had so many blowouts back then that he didn't play a lot of second halfs.

T.J. Dunson was great as a senior, but I don't know if he had that many yards his first two years.

Bobby McIlquham missed his senior year due to a knee injury. He was given a redshirt year but was never quite the same.

Charles Tinsley was very good, but he split his carries with Anthony Ravizee, who was also very good. Tinsley played at EKU and Ravizee played at Morehead.

Paul Lunsford is working on it, and I hope to have it ready for Friday's edition. It's not a complete list though because the stats don't go back very far. We just could find Hensley's junior and senior years for example.

Gilliam has over 4,000 yards with three straight seasons over 1,000.

One thing is for sure, Gilliam set the bar high for Harlan County High School as far as single game performance is concerned.

I have to admit that I wasn't sold on Gilliam before the season started because of a couple of games I watched him play last season. However, he answered all questions for me, and I think he is a dandy.

I wasn't sold on him at the beginning of the season either because he looks so small, but that just goes to show ya, DYMAMITE comes in small packages...KABOOM!!! Go Nat!!! :ylsuper:
