Lone Oak 45 Calloway County 42

Final.

What a game, borrowing a line from Jerry Clower, "the game was nip and tuck" both teams had a chance late to ice it but neither could until the LO F goal.

What a game if you like a lot of offense. Neither team could stop the other guy for the majority of the night. Official almost cost Lone Oak the game late in the 4th quarter when they rule a fumble on an apparent 1st down that should have been blown dead. However what a terrible decision by the Laker coaching staff to put the ball in the air when all they needed was to run some clock and kick a short field goal at the end of regulation and go home with a 3pt victory. Hats off to Calloway they were a better team then I thought & have some weapons on offense. Both teams need to work on defense to go deep into the playoffs.

Unbelievable on the pass play call from the sidelines. Lakers' ball at Lone Oak 15 yd line on 2nd down with less than a minute left. Run Willis twice to center of field -might even score - to set up chip shot FG and goal as time expires. No need to call pass play. To their credit, LO got the INT, but can thank Calloway staff for the gift. As stated, both teams loaded with talent and appear dead even offensively (obviously). Defense was totally worn out on both sides in the fourth quarter. Very entertaining game. If Lone Oak is #5 in 4A, Calloway is #6.

I don't know if these teams will meet again in the playoffs (Hopkins will have a lot to say about that) but both teams have work to do defensively. Having said that, I think the offensive numbers in this game have more to do with the scoring talent of these two teams, rather than truly poor defenses. I would be surprised to see any other programs tack this kind of score on either squad the rest of the regular season.

Chances are, sometime Monday or shortly thereafter, you can watch the archive of this game at http://www.wpsdlocal6.com

CC perhaps gave this one away. Nobody knows if they would have hit the field goal, but they didn't give themselves the chance. I think we'll see these two again in November. And barring major injury, meltdown, Lone Oak will be undefeated when they meet again.
