TTC, I believe you mentioned earlier that you were an investment consultant.

I've invested a little in the real estate market but always had an itch to learn and understand the stock market.

Do you have any suggestions for some good reading material for beginners ?

Believe it or not the SEC has a nice summary of information for beginner investors online at the following address:

http://www.sec.gov/investor/pubs/begininvest.htm

You will find some helpful "generic" information about investing in general at that site.

As far as specific advice about investing, there is a plethora of resources out there and to be honest I can't specifically suggest one over the other. What I would do if I were you is find an investment advisor whom you trust (DO NOT underestimate the importance of this) and establish a relationship with that person by communicating to him/her your goals/time horizon/risk tolerance/etc. Once you have reviewed the SEC site and spoken to an investment advisor, you will then be enabled with enough knowledge/information to perform some research and perhaps ultimately make some investing decisions on your own. Once you get to that stage, believe it or not MSN.com has a fabulous stock screening tool that I have utilized several times when making investment decisions for my personal account.

Don't know if this was what you were looking for, but hope it helps.

That helps. I appreciate it.

I love reading about investing. I'm a big numbers guy so investing has always made since to me. If you put something in numbers, I'll eventually figure it out.

To be honest, the stock market has always been a little intimidating to me. There are so many uncontrolable variables involved in the stock market. It's much different than real estate. For every story of a man making money, there's two or three stories of disaster. I guess that comes along with investing of any type though.

I've used MSN and Yahoo to look up the history of certain stock, but that's about as far as it goes. I've been looking for a good program that allows you to invest with fake money but haven't found anything yet.
