September 8, 200818 yr Yep. You would have a hard time convincing Hillary supporters (specifically my wife and parents) that it was not the best choice.

September 8, 200818 yr We are just going to have to agree to disagree that your wife and parents are not accurate samples of the Clinton supporter population. I disagree. I think they are very accurate examples. My grandfather worked for the Democrat party in the 50's and 60's buying votes with money and 1/2 pints of whiskey in Southern KY. My mom told me that my grandfather would roll over in his grave when I voted for GW in 2000. I have told them both that if I ran for office with a R behind my name, I would not count on their vote. They both told me today that they will probably vote for McCain. After the paramedics restarted my heart, I was speechless.
September 8, 200818 yr An interesting situation would be to see a Palin/Jindal ticket in 2012 after one term of McCain. If McCain wins, and his 4 years are like Bush's last 4 years it could really backfire on her and end her political. Imo it could be better for her if McCain loses then win.
September 8, 200818 yr If McCain wins, and his 4 years are like Bush's last 4 years it could really backfire on her and end her political. Imo it could be better for her if McCain loses then win. But it won't.:thumb:
September 8, 200818 yr Author Except no one is talking about McCain.Palin is not going to claim to be more qualified than McCain, so as long as the other three candidates are debating among themselves, McCain benefits. This campaign is a team exercise and Palin is making McCain's decision look much better than Obama's selection of Biden. Obama picked a dull campaigner who finished well back in the pack in the primaries to avoid the risk of having Hillary outshine him on the campaign trail. McCain has the right mix of confidence and humility to share the limelight with Palin. McCain will not likely seek reelection if he wins. If his legacy is that he dragged the second coming of Ronald Reagan onto the national stage, I believe that he would die a happy man.
September 8, 200818 yr Author AND ONLY became an option after Hillary was passed over. Many on here and in the media have went on and on about how this decision came down so quickly. It ONLY became a realistic smart political move once Obama bypassed Hillary. I believe that Palin was near the top of McCain's list all along but I agree that if Obama had put Hillary on his ticket, McCain probably would have gone with somebody else. If McCain had picked Palin after Obama picked Hillary, then McCain would have looked like he was following Obama's lead by picking a woman. Obama's mistake of picking Biden made McCain's choice much easier.
September 8, 200818 yr But it won't.:thumb: That was said 4 years ago, when old whats his name won.
September 8, 200818 yr That was said 4 years ago, when old whats his name won. Many on here took the position that GW was simply better than the option the Dems had put forward. Since then, we have taken the position that GW didn't deserve to win but Kerry was and still is a WORSE option than GW. Hillary runs in 2004 instead of 2008 and she is the incumbent President and we have a anti-Democrat movement in this country.

Obama's mistake of picking Biden made McCain's choice much easier. Let me be clear: I believe she was on the list and was a choice. But she became a real serious choice because O surprised them by not even considering Hillary. If he would have vetted her and made it seem that she was a serious choice, this Palin selection would have been muted. But his treatment (Hillary supporters words not mine) of her have really incensed them.

If he would have vetted her and made it seem that she was a serious choice, this Palin selection would have been muted. But his treatment (Hillary supporters words not mine) of her have really incensed them. Palin was not just a name down the list, she was always near the top. I think that Jindal was also near the top but his age and the flap over legislative raises probably did him in. Watching both Pawlenty and Palin speak last week, I honestly do not believe that Pawlenty was ever higher on McCain's list than Palin. People (not a reference to you) who believe that Palin was a desperation pick from left field who had not been carefully vetted by McCain are not being objective.

True Since then, we have taken the position that GW didn't deserve to win but Kerry was and still is a WORSE option than GW. This is a prediction You can't compare someone who is, to someone who is not. Hillary runs in 2004 instead of 2008 and she is the incumbent President and we have a anti-Democrat movement in this country. Again another prediction.
