July 12, 200917 yr Author "Transworld Tour" by Neil Young (Sides 1/2/3/4) It took me a while to get around to putting this on the wheels, but it sounds really good. Neil rules. This boot is strange in that sides 1 and 4 are on the same record, rather than the norm.
July 13, 200917 yr Author Since I'm on the computer, and away from the wheels of steel, I opted for some old tracks burnt to a CD. Current selection is an extra-cool live cover of "American Girl" by the outstanding, sorely-overlooked Austin band The Gourds. And no, that country-twinged cover of "Gin And Juice" was not done by Phish, despite how many times you wrongly saw it attributed to them on download sites. It was by The Gourds, probably costing one of the great American rock'n'roll bands their best chance at mainstream stardom, sadly. In a few minutes, I'm heading back out to the garage to spin some live Petty.

July 13, 200917 yr Author Current selection: "Settled Down Like Rain" by the Jayhawks, my favorite tune by one of my favorite bands. Just got done with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' 1985 "Pack Up The Plantation: Live!" set. It's good, but it fails to WOW me. A big part of the problem is it sounds like the era it tries to recapture: the bloated arena rock '70s. I've seen Petty and the Heartbreakers a few times. They're a good enough band to not need a litany of female background singers and horn-players. The extraneous stuff keeps this set from being a must-have for all rock'n'roll fans as opposed to what it is now: a must-have for Petty fans. It's not bad; but it could be great. New current selection: "High And Dry" by Radiohead
