Greenwood repeats as state champion with a 6-5 win over North Laurel . Amanda Bailey hits a solo homer in top of 6th to break a 5-5 tie. Rachel Riley gives up 3 earned runs and only runs of tournament but holds on for the win. Congradulations Gators!!!!

It's amazing that for so many years Greenwood was all about unfulfilled expectations, and then bam, back to back.

Greenwood was the most impressive team of the tournament. They seemed to have no flaws and a lot of veteran leadership. Congratulations to the Greenwood players, coaches, parents and fans on being back to back state champs.

Top 4 finish

Greenwood - State Champ

North Laurel - State Runners up

Owensboro Catholic - 3rd

Ryle - 4th

Grenwood deserved to win the state. IMO they were the best team and North Laurel was close behind.

I agree. Greenwood was the only top 10 team in the state who defeated North Laurel this year, and they did it twice in the state tourney. North had defeated them earlier in the season, but at the tourney, Greenwood was the better team. If my numbers are correct, Greenwood was the only team to score on North Laurel and vice versa the entire tournament. In my eyes, the best 2 teams played in the title game.

It was nice to see some of the coaches for North hugging a few of the Greenwood girls when they shook hands in line after the championship game. You could see the mutual respect between these 2 programs. It was classy to see.

The title game was a classic. North goes on top 2-0. Greenwood answers with 4 runs to go up 4-2. North battles back and takes a 5-4 lead. Greenwood ties it up 5-5. Greenwood gets the 6-5 lead on the solo homer and holds off a scoring threat from North Laurel to get the win. I hated how it turned out, but it was an exciting game.

I thought Sophomore pitcher Megan Taylor came in for North Laurel and pitched extremely well. That is a good sign for North next season as she will probably have to be the #1 pitcher with both Sears and Cobb graduating. She came in behind 4-2 early in the game

I thought Riley had great control. Not as much 'pop' on her pitches as last season before the injury, but she was so smooth, had great movement on her pitches and changed speeds with ease. UK is getting a good one in Riley. She also is a solid hitter as well. Just a great all around player.

Great tournament although I will be sunburned for about a week. It was so hot that I'll bet the sales for water and gatorade were thru the roof.
