Jesse James
South finished with a very good record of 22-8 and was one of the top teams in the 8th. What must they do to continue to stay at the top of the 8th region?
crazy8s
This year will be a rebuilding year for the Lady Dragons- they lost a ton of varsity experience(5 seniors) and an exceptional talent in Jones. They are returning two good players for the upcoming season, one senior, Reynolds, along with a junior, McGuffin, who both saw significant varsity minutes the last two seasons, to carry the load. They are young and have a large talented group of incoming freshman but what they lack is high school experience. I think this upcoming summer and season will be one of learning and gaining the necessary game experience to build for the future. They will take some hits but will also surpise some teams. The biggest problem for them may be scoring as Jones did a majority of the scoring for the last several years. It will be interesting to see who will take charge for them. A new name to listen for this year - Jasmine Whitfield(9th)- she has tons of talent and will be a BIG impact player for them. She and McGuffin will make a nice backcourt for the next two years - they should be fun to watch and bring a different game to the Lady Dragons. ColonelMike
Agree with Crazy8s for the most part...this will be a relatively inexperienced team, with Reynolds and McGuffin the only players returning with any significant experience...McGuffin is the only returning starter and the most likely candidate to be the team's leading scorer after school all-time record-holder Lauren Jones graduated (Jones led the team in scoring each of the past four seasons). Depth, rebounding, and scoring will all be question marks early in the season. I expect a solid defense, though, despite the new faces - Coach Frank Wright has produced the region's stingiest defense ever since he came to South.... The Lady Dragons are always well-schooled on D and as such, are almost always in a position to win.
Mr. Athletics
Frank Wright works as hard as any coach you will find. He is one of the top coaches in the region, no doubt. He will find a way to make his team competitve as the season goes along. He has some talented young players who are athletic. Look for them in the regional tournament once again. Do not sell them short.
ColonelMike
I don't think anyone's selling them short...but there's a lot of unknowns when you lose what South Oldham did, including 5 of the top 6 players and four starters, including the girl who's led the team in scoring for four straight seasons. The 29th District - which is seeded - still looks to be dominated by Oldham and South Oldham. They look to be the most likely candidates to represent the 29th in the 8th Region tournament. North Oldham graduated a lot of its scoring / leadership, and Trimble is re-building.
crazy8s
It is the unkowns that keep us all so interested.....that is the fun of it all!!
malachicrunch
Looking forward to seeing the Lady Dragons in Ft. Thomas Dec. 13th. Of course we all may be a little weary after being in Louisville the night before. Hopefully:thumb:
