2008 Hoopfest Showcases Top Teams/Talent

Featured Replies

The biggest high school basketball event just got bigger and has added a second HoopFest event in Laurel County, Kentucky in January of 2009. Things will kick off December 4-6, 2008, with the 13th edition of the Marshall County HoopFest in Benton, Kentucky.

The Inaugural Laurel County HoopFest will be played at South Laurel High School in London, Kentucky, January 22-24, 2009. The dual events promise to be bigger and better, featuring nationally ranked teams with future All-America and All-State performers.

Nationally ranked teams and state championship contenders in girls and boys basketball will compete in both locations and combining for a total of 30 games between the two events. Once again, Oak Hill Academy (VA) tops the list of national powers at the Marshall County HoopFest, along with Los Angeles Fairfax (CA), Monteverde Academy (FL), Chicago Whitney Young (IL), St. Benedict’s (NJ), Jackson Provine (MS), Memphis White Station (TN), Wheeler (GA), Chicago Simeon (IL), Duncanville (TX), Jackson Calloway (MS), Homewood Flossmoor (IL), Briarcrest (TN) and Obion County Central (TN).

Also participating in the Marshall County Hoop Fest will be Calloway County (KY), Harrisburg (IL), Marshall County (KY), Paducah Tighlman (KY), Graves County (KY), Massac County (IL), Lexington Catholic (KY) and Madisonville North Hopkins.

Oak Hill Academy will also headline the Laurel County Hoop Fest, along with national programs Christ School (NC), New American (NY), Cincinnati Princeton (OH) and Jackson Provine (MS).

Kentucky teams participating will include host South Laurel, North Laurel, Louisville Ballard, Louisville Pleasure Ridge Park, Louisville Manual, Boone County, Marshall County, Perry County Central, McCreary Central, Henry Clay and Warren Central.

It looks like McCreary Central will enter a bigger tournament and will finally give some exposure to Aaron Watts. You may not believe me, but Aaron Watts may be the most talented player there - that's counting Oak Hill, etc. You may disagree because he's not a 6'9 PF and not known, but he could play for any of these teams.

Scott Co. was just added to Marshall Co. Hoopfest will play Duncanville (TX).

First off, it's not a tournament. As for Watts being the most talented player there, Ummm, I wouldn't go that far. But he is very talented.:thumb:

Well, a hoopfest that will finally give them exposure. I didn't say he WAS the best player, but that he MAY be. Watch and see.

Glad to see McCreary playing more a quality schedule- they need to with Watts- he is a stud no doubt. But one game exposure doenst make a season but it is a start- as for best player there?? One of them maybe- but that is saying alot

Does anyone know when the pairings will be announced?

I don't think a second HoopFest, is being added. HoopFest, is moving to Laurel County,

in 2009. This is what I was told back in January, before it was made public knowledge.

Someone may know something diffrent... by now about the event. This will be a great sporting event for the Southeast, KY area.

No there will be two hoops fest from what I've been told.
