Many believe that the republicans represent those who are wealthy. They favor tax breaks for the rich and they believe in the "trickle down" approach, correct? My point is that most people believe, whether it is true or not, that Republicans support the rich. The rich, need the poor, to be rich. Therefore the rich people in the republican party or in any party for that matter, benefit from keeping the poor where they are financially.

 

Everyone thinks they can achieve the "American dream" in this country but in reality there is not a very good success rate for poor people. I believe 1% of Americans own around 40% of the nations wealth. And I believe 10% owns 50% of the nations wealth. Basically, the majority of the wealth in this country is possessed by few people. Those who are poor are more than likely going to remain poor, and that's exactly how the rich want it to be.

Beats the heck out of a monarchy or a dictatorship that controls 99% of the wealth.

All the poor need is discilpine to get out of poverty. That's about as absurd as this entire thread.

 

You mean like a spanking? I'm sure the little old granny who has to decide between food and that prescription will feel much better knowing that all she needs is a little discipline.

 

I guess all of those who are not living in poverty are well-disciplined individuals.

Look, I am not going to convince you on this, but I know that there are jobs out there where you can get a decent (livable) pay with little education. And I see poor people buying cigarettes constantly and at Wal-Mart buying Xbox 360's and such. But that is not the topic of this thread.

 

Do you two think that the social programs of the Democrats help or hurt this situation? And furthermore, do you think that the Democrats realize that they hurt?

Any assistance should have some stipulations. Required to finish your GED or a work study program not just a hand out.
