It is that time a year again as the school year is winding down and summer hoops will be here real soon. There are many summer shoot-outs throughout the state, but I was just wondering what everyone's summer schedule looks like this year. Summer is where players are made, as far as I am concerned, and it is a lot of fun for coaches just to see what they have and get an early gauge on what their teams will look like.

North Hardin is hosting a summer shootout June 5-6. Participating teams: Louisville Holy Cross, Campbellsville, Garrard County, Louisville Western, Taylor County, Central Hardin, Shelby Valley, Meade County, Louisville Moore, Muhlenberg South, Louisville Male, DuPont Manual, LaRue County, Ohio County, and North Hardin.

This will be a good chance to see how good Manual and Shelby County will be next year.

 

I've read where Jenkins (Manual) is playing some really good ball in the aau circuit. He is getting stronger, quicker, and can jump higher. I heard he has no trouble dunking the ball now. According to Jody Demling's blog, he put on a real show at the adidas May Classic.

 

Samsel (Manual) is one of the playmakers for the Spiece gym rats 2010 and is coming along really well. He is supposedly doing an awesome job running the point for his team. He's also added some inches by growing to 5' 11". He has picked up were he left off playing for Manual last year from the outside, where he shot over 42% from the three point line as a sophomore.

 

This would be a good shootout to watch this summer!

I saw Jenkins several times this past year. I was impressed. Also got a chance to talk with his family. Sounds like he has a good foundation and a bright future at the college level.

Meade Co. has a good lineup coming in on June 16,17,18

Grayson, North Hardin, PRP, Floyd Central, Ind., Fairdale, South Central, Ind., Seneca, Breck. Co., Christian Co., Iroquois, Meade.

JV games all 3 nights too.

There seems to be a tremendous amount of these type of events throughout the state but I don't ever read or hear of much in NKY. Anyone know of any of these type of events in the NKY area that would be open to the public for viewing?

I can't help you out much, except to say CovCath did have a shootout type event several times in the summer. Fair number of teams, including some down state schools and some Ohio schools.

 

Seems like the event was at CovCath a few times and maybe at an off-campus facility another time? I don't know all the details, except I don't think it's been an annual thing, and I think it's in July, when they do have it.
