Dixie's head coach resigned

I don't believe the Ludlow coach is a candidate. Dixie's administration would prefer someone who is also a teacher at the school.

Shanece Miller!!

Nothing against the Miller girl as she has a lot of talent but I felt Dixie played more as a team without her this past season.

Anyone heard anything? It was announced in school on Thurs that there is a team meeting on Tuesday the 27th. Maybe for a coach announcement?

Is Bill Petty still involved with the Dixie Lady Colonels program?

I've heard that Andy Elkus has been named the new head coach, Coming over from Summit View M.S.

:thumb:Interesting choice. Does he have any high school experience? What exactly does he bring to the program that would cause the school officials at Dixie to feel he is the right fit? Did they interview anyone from outside?

Just curious but would they have hired someone from the Middle School to be the boys coach? I often wonder if the same effort is put forth to hire a girls coach as there is to hire a boys coach..

Best of luck to Coach Elkus and the Lady Colonels this coming year.

Confirmed from the Dixie AD. We'll try to get him on the show this week.

Keep us posted on that buttels. Also, where do I tune in ?

Nothing against Coach Elkus but how does a school the size of Dixie hire a head V coach w/no V experience? or Is this one of those must hires due to teaching in the system?

All good questions, none of which am I able to answer. Anyone?

In all fairness, coach Cooper didn't have any head coaching experience when she was hired either. Coach Chevalier didn't have any head coaching experience when he was hired on the boys side a few years back. Both turned out to be okay.

If your point is more about high school coaching experience period, I certainly can see that. Does the new coach have any experience at the HS level?

I believe he has coached at the Middle School level for about 20 years along with being the AD part of that time. It is my understanding that the search was limited to in-house applicants of which there were 3. By in-house, I assume that means Kenton County Schools. Don't no anything about his style of coaching or how successful he has been, but hope he is a good fit here.

:confused:Interesting..Limited to only inhouse candidates seems to me to be rather disappointing and quite possibly excludes the potential for a more qualified candidate. Doesn't seem like alot of effort was put into this hiring but again not knowing the coach I'm not trying to criticize him whatsoever. Just the process by which he was chosen.

Coach Elkus introduced himself today at a meeting for the girls basketball team. I understand he took comments and ideas from the girls at the meeting so we'll see what happens. The first camp they are participating in is in about 2 weeks. Good luck to Coach Elkus and the Lady Colonels.

Exactly, sorry I wasn't more precise w/my comments, no H.S. experience!!

HJ, getting scary.:thumb: I have to agree w/you. Not much effort in this search for a new coach. I am sure Andy will do great and I wish him all the luck in the world. He is a great guy w/a great wife and family.
