Ledger Independent All-Area

Featured Replies

No one had mentioned it yet, so I wanted to give kudos to Matt Montavon at the Ledger for last week's All-Area. The girls ran on Friday and the boys (in all color!) on Saturday. He did a fantastic job all on his own to get that completed close to the the season ending, and I thought it looked great.

Anyone else see the Ledger's choices? IMO, they were spot on!

For those of us who don't get the Maysville apper. who were the players?

Just so you know, this is a combination of the Ledger's coverage area, so players from Ohio probably aren't as recognizable to many people on this forum:

Boys

Player of the Year - Darius Miller, Mason County

Coach of the Year - Chris O'Hearn, Mason County

First Team

Chris Owens, St. Patrick

Blake Justice, Peebles

Russ Middleton, Mason County

Trevor Setty, Mason County

Shooty Staggs, Augusta

Chris Mofford, Augusta

Kyle King, Deming

Jess Chadwell, Georgetown

Jared Quinlan, Manchester

Nick Anderson, St. Patrick

Second Team

John Mineer, Ripley

Luke King, Deming

Tyler Arnold, Peebles

Andrew Seaman, Peebles

Stephen Mason, St. Patrick

Ash Price, West Union

Ethan King, Mason County

Craig Staggs, West Union

Corey Henschen, Ripley

Tyler Knabb, Eastern Brown

Honorable Mention (KENTUCKIANS ONLY)

Devin Workman, Bracken County

Garth Grause, Deming

Nathan Mitchell, Deming

Preston Dugan, Fleming County

Josh Gray, Fleming County

Tyler Newsom, Fleming County

Terrence Smith, Lewis County

Frankie Witten, Lewis County

Keith Downing, Mason County

Jackson Tolle, Mason County

Andy Clarke, St. Patrick

I also listed the girls over on the other forum, if you're interested.

I would have liked to seen Kentucky teams only. The coverage of the Ohio teams in the ledger gets old, in fact that's the reason I canceled my subscription.

This again?

You've gotta be kidding me. But if you'd like them to wipe out half their coverage area just for your personal preferences, maybe everyone's better off with you not as a subscriber.

Better yet, you could start your own racer4lefe Daily Herald... You could even have your own weekly column where you bash a bunch of hard working kids from West Union/Ripley/Georgetown etc.

I would never bash the kids, but being from Kentucky I'm just not interested in Ohio high school basketball, or any other sport for that matter. But don't worry about me I have other papers I like better.

A quick search shows that you're the same guy who, in the last Ledger-bashing thread, said they should cover no games on a given night rather than cover Ohio games. Glad to see you've stuck to your guns and still believe that out of 8,000 or whatever in a coverage area, you still think you're the only one that matters.

Hey, I've got other papers I like better too, and teams I'd rather hear/see/read about than others, but seriously, coverage area is coverage area. Just because I personally don't like UK, doesn't mean I think the Herald Leader shouldn't cover them or because I personally would have rather seen somebody other than Kansas and Memphis in the national championship tonight doesn't mean I think CBS should pack it up and go home.

I'm going to leave it at that. This should be a thread about honoring these kids, not for meaningless arguments.

Congratulations to all who were selected to the L-I all-area team!

Congratulations to all the kids. Whoever made up the list evidently did not see all the teams play or least wasn't paying attention.

Back this statement up. I know for a fact that the "whoever" should be pluralized and they did see every team. Let's hear your beef rather than this unqualified comment.

Ethan King from Mason County should have been on the 1st team. IMO. He would have been the leading scorer any other area team.

Well, if every team was seen then evidently the second part of my statement must be correct. I thought playing defense and rebounding would be part of the qualifications for an All Area team and not just hitting 2 or 3 three's a game.
