Took the wife to Belterra last night for our Wedding Anniversary and had a great time. Ate an oustanding Filet at Jeff Rubys and played a little BlackJack with some folks. This place is very nice and I was very curious about the golf course.

 

I have one question though, why would someone carrying a breathing device with tubes running into his nose decide to enter a smoke filled Casino? Just curious.

It's a horrible addiction. I've seen many people take out their nasal canulas and turn off their oxygen so they can smoke.

That is sad. I did notice they had a non-smoking Slot room but the doors were open and the smoke was bellowing in. It really didnt do much good. Its amazing how many people smoke when they are gambling.

Believe it or not, I did that once or twice back when I was on oxygen. They most likely sought out one of the few non-smoking areas in the casino. Sometimes they have an entire floor that is non-smoking.

 

Just because you're on supplemental oxygen doesn't mean that you stop your life and sit home. I admit, it's not a very friendly environment for a respiratory patient; but it's not impossible. The ventilation systems are usually pretty good. You just have to find a good spot--or one of the non-smoking areas.

 

What never ceased to amaze me was a situation like this: You're sitting there playing a slot machine, with your oxygen tank clearly visible. Some old geezer plops themselves down next to you and starts to smoke. I used to tell people it was a highly explosive gas...but they could go ahead and smoke if they were willing to risk it. Worked every time!

I've never actually seen a person smoking while on oxygen; but I know it does happen. I've heard stories of people being burned to death (usually at home) from a dropped cigarette. The oxygen is not explosive at all. What it does is act as an accelerant and causes the fire to burn hotter and spread faster.

I used to work at a hospital that had a smoking patio and unfortunately I saw people go outside to smoke quite often. It was very sad.

Yeah, I once saw a guy sitting in the hospital's driveway, smoking. He was sitting in a hospital wheelchair, wearing a gown, and even had an IV going! :creepy:

I've played the golf course one time there and walked away VERY IMPRESSED!!! If I remember it was pretty costly (we got some kind of deal but I don't remember what it was that made it cheap). We went to Ceaser's last weekend and I was very disappointed. I've been there a good bit of times and enjoyed it but they had a flood that messed things up a few weeks back. There was one floor shut down so it was way overcrowded. The tables were all jacked up too. The cheapest you could get on was $15 tables for all game. I played poker (1st time at the boat) and stayed up or down within $50 for about 4 hours. The tables upstairs just weren't worth being shoulder to shoulder. I've already decided if I go back to the boat it's going to be Belterra and I'm going to make a golf trip with the buddies out of it.

I have played the course numerous times. Its a nice course, a tricky layout, and from the back tees very, very challenging. The conditions were great and much different than most courses in this area. We got to play for free several times, so I dont remember the rate, but I am sure it is costly. However, they most likely have some specials if you keep your eye open.

Never played golf there but gamble there 2-3 times a week! Love it!

When you consider they are the same people who usually can't be bothered to put out their cigarrette while they put gas in their tank, is this really surprising?
