Letcher wins 53rd District

Both these teams will be a tough game in region play. The winners and runner-ups are now decided.

 

Winners: Letcher Central, Estill County, Hazard, Breathitt County.

Runner-ups: Cordia, Powell County, Perry Central, Jackson City

 

The 14th region draw will be tomorrow, but I don't know what time.

Only 3 all A schools make it to the tourney, seems strange for the 14th. And only one goes in as a district champion.

Yeah, but the All A schools gave a good account of themselves. Cordia lost to Letcher Central by 2, and Jackson City lost to Breathitt County by 1. Hazard won by 6 over Perry Central. And in the 56th, neither finalist were All A schools, Estill beat Powell in OT. Champion Estill beat an All A school, Owsley, on a last second shot in the first round.

But I agree, most of the schools in the 14th are All A schools. Only Knott, Breathitt, Powell, Estill, Perry, and Letcher, are not. But those large enrollment numbers are hard to overcome in tournament time.

Sounds like a good game, I would like to hear some stats. I expected Cordia in a close one but wasnt too surprised to see a good Letcher team come out on top. Congrats to Letcher.

I don't understand why you think it is strange for "only 3" all A schools to make it to the Region--Sounds like you think schools with less than 250 students in grades 9-12 should have a better team that schools with 600+ enrollment. Wish that was true--but only in "Elite Situations" will that occur--i.e, having several GREAT transfers that are ruled eligible.

I think it might be only 2--Cordia and Jackson.

I was just saying with the majority of schools in the 14th being All A schools there is usually more representation.

A strategy game with a slower tempo than expected.
