February 26, 200818 yr Been there.. Haven't we all? I still don't like to think about the fact that I'll never play again.
February 26, 200818 yr Not at all. My son first put on pads 7 1/2 years ago as a 7 year old. He's now an 8th grader and he's 6'1" 210 lbs and benches 225. He started for our 8th grade team when he was in 7th grade and started for the 7th grade team in 6th grade. Along the way he played for 2 undefeated teams and for 1 loss team, counting little league--he played 33 games in one year. He also scored 2 touchdowns and a 2 point conversion as an offensive/defensive lineman. It is all in how hard you work.

Of course if he burns out or something I guess you could say he started too early but I think all the equipment on the young guys precludes and real violent collisions. And cuts down on the wear and tear.
February 26, 200818 yr My oldest son started when he was 8 and wanted to quit after 2 weeks. I didn't let him and he went on to play D-2 college ball. My youngest son begged me to let him play when he was 4. I told him if wanted to play the following year I'd let him. He didn't forget and started when he was 5. He will be a senior for Ludlow next season. To me, it's all about the child, and if they want to do it, I say let them.
