February 15, 200818 yr Policing the world is a huge debt on the United States. The biggest problem to world powers in history is that they overextend & huge debt takes them under. While we are a world power, I do not think we would be as effective, if we were attacked today. Our resources are in other countries and our soldiers are worn down b/c of the constant fighting. I just do not see spending these massive resources in foreign soils and raising our debt even more is a good policy when we are approaching a recession. While FDR had many good policies, one of the main reasons we came out of the Great Depression was WWII. many people had jobs to make supplies. We are in a war for five years & spending trillions of dollars on it but still our economy is not in good shape. I agree with the bolded and I often feel that people tend to forget that. Also most of FDR's policies and plans were things that Herbert Hoover started to implement, FDR just renamed them and funded them more effectively.

February 16, 200818 yr We have 30,000 troops in South Korea. If the 2 million-man north korean army invaded they would roll over our troops. We have aircraft carriers that can put jets over any part of the globe and stealth bombers that can fly from Missouri to any part of the world without being seen. We need maybe one airbase in Europe and one in Asia with appropriate hospital facilities. We don't need thousands of troops stationed in Germany, South Korea, and Japan. Let the Japanese build their military and bring the troops home. Japan would have to change their constitution in order to do this.
February 16, 200818 yr Japan has a 'national defense force' same as Germany. Constitutionally, they cannot make war, but they can defend themselves.
