mcpapa Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Congrats to Amanda - I've known her since she was born. Great parents. Amazing what a kid can do - no knock on Deming at all, but those of who know Amanda know what she has to go through as far as her training. Good luck at the state meet!
shamrock fan Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 The commitment this girl and her family have made is truly something. What's even more amazing is that she didn't start swimming until middle school. Good luck at the state meet!:thumb:

shamrock fan Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 One example would be practice\training before and after school at the Y in Maysville. With school being in Mt. Olivet, obviously. I'm glad I'm not her driver. Especially for the morning shift.
mcpapa Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Please explain. I'll let this article do the explaining. http://www.realcities.com/mld/kentucky/sports/columnists/mark_story/11134702.htm
mcpapa Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 LBBC, did the article help? What I was getting at is there are several obstacles to overcome. First and foremost is the lack of facilities. Most of the high-profile swim teams have access to a school pool or a local pool. Most have access to a high-tech weight room. The lack of facilities necessitates a tortuous schedule for Amanda and her parents. I've known her parents for some 20 years, and it's a credit to their support and the young lady's dedication that she has been as successful as she has. And most elite swimmers have teammates.
SkipToMyLou Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I agree with mcpapa I've known her parents for a great deal of time and they are top notch. Amanda is a hard worker and she has a dream of the Olympics and I for one believe she can. Good luck at state Amanda!!!!
