February 6, 200818 yr My responses are in the red. It should be a real strategic and interesting race. Right now, it appears the Democrats have a strong advantage. To continue with McCains support of immigration. While you make a really good point about McCain's immigration policies and possible support from Hispanics. Wouldn't this be a double edged sword for Republicans. While many think we need to deport them & not give them special treatment, wouldn't McCain "amnesty" stance hurt his base of Republicans? So, while gaining some Hispanic votes, he would turn off many Republicans (they may not switch parties but they may abstain from voting for McCain the moderate)

I don't see McCain as a lesser of two evils. I think he would make a decent President. If Obama wasn't pro-choice, I would like Obama. And of course, I don't believe Huckabee is an evil at all. You would like or support Obama (assuming Huckabee is out of the race at that time) if he was pro-choice? I like the guy, I just can't support some of his socialist agenda.

That is what I was basing my comments on. While I do not believe that the current left wing politicians are not socialists, I do believe that universal/government health is a huge step in that directions. Please let me know if I'm wrong but doesn't conservative mean to control spending, control the budget, etc. please explain: 1. A conservative Republican and Congress up until 2007 have increased our debt. 2. while it is wrong for gov't to control business & spend $ on healthcare, it is okay for the gov't to just "give" money to people & call it a "tax break". If dems "give" $ it is a socialist program but if reps "give" $ its a "tax break". *also please don't go into "I'm a fiscal conservative or social conservative". Its funny how dems are ALL LIBERAL but republicans can be varying degrees of conservative depending if we're talking about the economy, war or programs.
February 7, 200818 yr I was merely defending my usage of the word socialist when describing politicians who are supporters of universal healthcare. I agree that President Bush's and the Congress' spending has been out of control. I don't recall defending that. I am actually disappointed in it, and frankly not surprised. As for your second point I didn't realize that the government was giving money when it offers a tax breaks to tax payers? How is a tax break giving money to someone? I thought that the money was the individual's not the government's? (unless we truly do live in a socialist society.... =) ) The government doesn't earn money. We do. I hope this clears things up.

You can't give people a tax break if they pay little or no taxes.

Germany has socialized medicine but isn't totally socalist. Same for France, the UK, Japan, Canada. It hasn't happened in 60 years and I don't think it's going to happen here.
