the over abundence of the feet shuffling traveling calls (my pet peeve) during a girls first move. I'm biased I admit, but the boys get away with that shuffle and the girls do not!

 

I agree, this has to be the call that is made a gazillion times and I don't see the pivot foot ever move, ref just sees the ball.

What high schools play on Sundays where the same refs do back to back games?

 

I am sorry should have said Saturday.

Some just don't have the time.

A coach told me that a ref said that you have to call more fouls in a girls game than you do in a boys game. This came from a highly rated official.

The 16th region is glad to hear this since we are exchanging with them for our region tournament. :creepy:

 

After reading many threads about the poor officiating in the 16th Region, doesn't look like the 9th is being given any favor. There are several good officials in the 9th. I know a lot of them and they work just as hard during a girls game. Since the girls game is slower paced it may appear that the officials aren't working as hard.

Scott/HHS. 1st half. Scott has the ball in the front court. Highlands gains possession in the paint. Goes the other way with it. Train wreck under the Highlands basket. Trail official is still standing on the baseline at Scott's end! Way to "work hard" there Mr. Official.

One difference I will offer between the boys and girls is the strength of the players. While it may seem officials call girls games tighter, the difference is that many girls are not able to play through the same contact that boys are able to.

 

This goes back to an earlier thread where contact is not necessarily a foul, but when a player gains an advantage through contact it becomes a foul. This is why strength and conditioning is becoming much more important in the girls games.

Very nice point Hawg! However, it seems as though basketball, boys or girls, is as rough as it's ever been!

Girls are most often not going to be as strong as boys, but to gain an advantage on D.. I have noticed an awful lot of hand checking and reaching in and arm slaping in the girls games that go uncalled . When you are handling the ball in open court those things should be called. They ARE used simply to gain an advantage. It may be a little tougher to call in the paint where there are more players at times, but I say make the call in open court !( MY PET PEEVE)
