All A Classic First Round: Paintsville vs Lou. Holy Cross

Featured Replies

Thoughts and Predictions on this game I say Paintsville wins by 14.

Holy Cross 58-56.

I really like Paintsville's chances to making a good run at this thing. Paintsville by 12.

Probably one of the better 1st round games. This one could go either way depending on who is hitting the 3 ball and who plays their game plan out right. I would like to stick with the mountain team on this one, but I think Holy Cross will come out on top of this one by 1.

Tigers 64-50

I have heard the Slone kid is the real deal. Anyone know much about him?

Anybody that beats PRP must have a nice team. Have not seen HC play but have seen Paintsville 3x. Slone is 6'4" and a true guard who is quick, can jump, handle the ball on the break and make good decisions, and shoot from all over. He averages 25ppg and is shooting 60% from the field. Bill Mike Runyon keeps asking where are the colleges and that he is as good as any player he has had and we know Paintsville in the 90s had some terrific players. Kid will make a nice player for a team like Marshall where JR Vanhoose had a good career.

I would say that Paintsville wins this one by a landslide. They have the experience with a senior dominated team and yes the Slone kid is for real.

Slone is a good scorer but lacks in the athleticism department. He does not have good jumping ability, and is far from being as good as anyone that has come through Paintsville. He's not anywhere in the same league as players like Vanhoose, Pelphrey, Adkins, and even Tackett for that matter...

Slone has a exceptional all-around game and probabily moves better w/out the basketball than anyone in the state. He's not just an offensive weapon eighter he's usually assigned to guard the opposing teams best player on most occasions. Theres not alot of flaws in his game. He along with Hopson-UHA, are probabily the top two players in this tournament. Paintsville also has Shane Grimm who is probabily the 2nd best player in the 15th and Justin Murrary who transferred from Johnson Central who IMO is probabily the 3rd best guard in the 15th region Behind Justice of Shelby Valley and Slone. They are a very good team by todays standards(teams are not what they used to be). Their lack of height is probabily their biggest flaw and they have matchup problems with teams with descent Bigmen(6'7 & Up).

I don't believe HC will be able to hang with Paintsville...I look for them to make a nice run this year.
