So, Strike3 (or anyone else listening), are you insinuating that officials never deliberately make 'wrong' calls? I think it is not as prevelant as some presume, but probably not as infrequent as others think.

 

Of course officials can change the outcome of a game....easily. All they have to do is 'focus' their attention on a particular player and get him in foul trouble, or call walking to keep him from dribbling, or call 'over the back' to keep him from rebounding, or call charges to keep him from penetrating.

Not sure how you derived at that but coaches, players and refs, certainly make wrong decisions.

 

So if a Ref calls walking and it's a bad call, is the call any worse than missing a 1-1 FT by a player, team committing 15± turnovers, players missing their screens, not jumping on a rebound, not hustling back on defense....these are all part of the makeup of the game but we as fans, like to assign blame to a Ref, for making "a bad call" and not seeing all that has transpired, over 32 minutes.

 

Keep in mind, there are 5 ways, to observe/watch a game....

 

1-Player

2-Coach

3-Ref

4-Parent

5-Fan

 

Now consider, each watches a different aspect of the same game, than the other. Parents primarily, watch their own a greater percent of the time. Players, are seeing the ball and remembering their assignment. Coaches, are overseeing the scheme/match-ups and plays. Refs, have zones to observe and rules to enforce. Fans, think they can view in all 5 modes but they can't. Often times, they see or perceive they see things happen, when in reality it's because "that is what they want to happen".

 

Each view, gives a differing perspective to the game, when watching.

You make some very good points sir, a better accountability system needs to be in place for sure. The All A tournament needs to be looked at also IMO, this tournament is a big event for Single A schools and the regional tournaments are called by officials from within their own region and hand picked by a select few people from what I understand which includes a coach or two from teams that are participating in the tournament. This just doesnt seem fair to me, Touchstone Energy should appoint a committee in each region and there should be a representative from each school on that committee and be involved in the overall organization of the tournament. This committee should if at all possible get officials from outside their own region to call these games just like the KHSAA does for the regional tournaments in March.

 

It is up to each individual policy board to vote if they are staying in or going out with officials for the distict and regional tournaments. KHSAA decides who call the state tournaments.
