Qryche11 Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Nice win for the Colonels. Nice article in Enquirer this morning also on Luke Mace. He seems like a solid kid and nice player. Any stats on this one?
98NCCalum Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 NCC shot about 27 percent from the field....pretty much says it all.
98NCCalum Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Refs were bad but bad for both sides. Lipscomp had 14 of NCC's first 18 points and then didn't score after. NCC led by 6 at half. The big 6'8 guy for Dixie is SOFT! He backed down from kids much smaller than him all night. I think he might have had 6 points. If someone puts a butt on him he can be neutralized with ease. I have given Grant Pangallo some flack recently but he has played very well the past 3 games. He didn't score this game (0-5) but I think he had 10 assists and only 1 TO. Solid game for a small PG. NCC played bad, and Dixie did not impress but did enough to win.
happymeal Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 In today's Enquire it looks like Mace got the better of Giesler! Doesn't look like NCC got the ball to Lipscomb or Connor????? Lipscomb got all of his in the 1st half totally shut down in the 2nd half????? Anyone that was there have any insight on what happened????
Qryche11 Posted January 19, 2008 Author Posted January 19, 2008 Soft or not, Mace looks to have shut down Geisler. But from what the paper said, that wasnt the focus of this matchup. The guard play of Kendall was key as he was the aggressor in the 2nd half. Nice to hear Pangallo had a very nice Assist to TO ratio. He is a great kid who has a great family and I hope he does well. Doesnt have much hope on growing though but Muggsy Bogues made us all believers.
98NCCalum Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 NCC had open looks all night. They just didn't hit em. Dixie did play ver good D in the 4th but NC still had the lead and oppurtunities just couldn't knock down open shots.
NKU20 Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Dixie did play good defense, however today's average high school player cannot get their shot off without running a play. NCC was down 5 with 47 seconds to go and nobody could create their own offence and get a shot off. Dixie's scout team did a great job of prepairing them for the game. They knew all of NCC's plays. Conner didn't even take a shot in the first half and Lipscomb only had one shot in the second half.

Dixie did a good job on D indeed it sounds. 98alum you say NCC had open looks all night but NKU20 says Connor didn't shoot the 1st half Lipscomd shot only once the 2nd half? Who was shooting besides Lipscomb after he went 4 for 4 from the trey in the 1st quarter???? Sounds like Dixie just really locked down the 3 main threats for the breds and that was it?

Dixie shut down NCC's Bread and butter, the 3 point shot. The 4 Lipscomb made in the first half were tough shots.
happymeal Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 sounds like the Breds better find a way to get their 2 "bread and butter" guys open and give them the ball!
B-Ball-fan Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 It was a very fundamentally sound, hard fought, nicely executed game by both teams for 4 solid quarters with very few stupid mistakes or lapses in tenacity. Dixie's 'D' ultimately won this battle, but NewCath's 'D' was challenging as well. Dixie had a better plan though and locked down the 3 ball which made all the difference. Dixie and NewCath both play as well tuned machines with great teamwork. It was a great game to watch merely on this observation. Two well coached teams fighting it to the finish. Neither team wooed from the line which needs much improvement, but it was entertaining to watch Pangallo dish out some nasty assists and Dixie's 'attack the basket' guy (don't know his name) relentlessly slice to the basket to take it strong to the hole. Mace's dedicated play and Dixie's bench added some meaningful minutes to the game. Pompellio was a workhorse down low. Lipscomb was on fire early on which almost smelled of a legendary night for him. Dixie took care of that, but it was wild while it lasted. Conner played tough but Dixie's defenders proved too much and he didn't get the good looks that he wanted but still managed to knock a down a couple. I really liked what I saw out of both teams. Great defensive game with great determination. :thumb:

They better find a way to get those 2 open looks!:thumb:

They let all the hand checking and bumping go on out front and the high school player is not good enough to get a good shot off. I liked it better when you had to move your feet on defense.

I liked it better when you had to move your feet on defense. 2 teams playing fundamental team ball. 2 teams with much respect for their coaches. Defensive struggle or not, this kind of basketball works for me. 'Run and gun' with no plan with too many stars usually frustrates and ultimately bores me. I just dig good sound teamwork and Great 'D' can be fun to watch when brilliantly executed. It's not always about the ball going in the hole. Part of the game is also trying not to let the other team put the ball in the hole. I applaude great 'D' as much as I will a team that executes a good offense. :thumb:
