Ram Posted December 8, 2007 Share Posted December 8, 2007 That is interesting. It is the opposite of what I think most schools experience. I'm not sure why it happens, but I have observed it for a while now. I think that contributing factors are: 6th grade are leaving the JFL and entering our JR program, our 7th grade is at the HS, so being new at the school enables them to hide and are not singled out as football players so they can not play without quiting a team per sa, and 7th grade is when a lot of our players start deciding that they want to play one sport and some choose basketball. After JR high, I think they miss football, and then see that they can play more then one sport, or decide that they are not going to do as well as they thought in basketball. It has not been uncommon over the last 5-10 years at Raceland for us to have as few as 5 players from the freshman class, then that class to have 20 players by their senior year.
