Illegals' Children and Scholarships

I'll say it. No, these families should receive NO financial assistance of any kind from the tax coffers.

To be clear, this is because they are not paying into the coffers, correct?

No. Some do pay in. It's because they're party crashers.

Party crashers as in criminals (ie illegal immigrants)?

Which is why we need to fix the illegal alien problem. I just don't have an answer on how to fix it.

cshs81 is baiting his hook. Very nice use of the Socratic method, cshs.

Is there a difference in spending federal tax dollars on this issue vs spending federal tax dollars on scholarships for children of convicted felons?

Is there a difference in spending federal tax dollars on this issue vs spending federal tax dollars on scholarships for children of convicted felons?

Yes. Convicted felons 1) are still citizens and 2) are paying their debt for their crimes. The immigrants are doing neither.

My first instinct is to also say if a school/state does allow it, they lose federal funding.

Now, the problem is that you have uneducated youth roaming the streets, unsupervised. Which can translate into more crime.

What about this idea. It in no means offers a solution to the total immigration problem but here goes anyway:

Any illegal immigrant found in this country that has children(also illegal) that live with them, must have them enrolled in the school system. It is part of a deal to stay in the country and not be enrolled. There could be a set of benchmarks that the child needs to reach, and the parent also needs to reach where they are involved in the school. Path to citizenship is also a part of the process, where adult and child will become legal citizen as they graduate high school.

Just an idea- feel free to pick it apart.

If the illegal is contributing(ie working), does that not rank higher than a tax cheat/murderer/rapist/armed robber who is sitting in prison and contributing zero to society?

The convicted felon's children are still legitimate citizens of this country. My wife refuses to participate in Angel Tree because the kid's presents have the felon's name on them. It's an area we disagree on.

There are not degrees of citizenship, just citizenship.

I get that. I understand that line of thinking. I'm just not comfortable with the punitive aspect of it.

The bottom line in this discussion is that if you are here illegally, your children should not benefit from it, even if they were born here. I am an advocate of an amendment to the Constitution that takes away citizenship to all persons born on US soil. If you are born here to an illegal, then you are illegal, also.

NO free education.

NO college scholarship.

NO free health care.

YES to a one way ticket back home!

You're a doctor. A very sick child comes to you. The parents are illegals. The child is in VERY bad shape.

You tell them to take a hike?

I agree. Many would say we are punishing the children when in fact the illegals are using this loophole to get their foot in the door.

I consider that an individual decision. I'll leave it to each individual to do what they feel is right for the illegal. After all, being illegal doesn't mean your a bad person. But I also don't want the government subsidizing them, thus encouraging more of the same.
