Interesting and good work, there have been a lot of research and tidius work done recently by a lot of posters trying to prove points on the new playoff format.

I wonder how this compares to two years ago when districts played other districts?

Anyone want to take the time to look it up?

2005 1st round:

OVERALL:

1 seed 30-2 vs. 4 seed

2 seed 24-8 vs. 3 seed

4-A:

1 seed 6-2 vs. 4 seed

2 seed 3-5 vs. 3 seed

3-A:

1 seed 8-0 vs. 4 seed

2 seed 7-1 vs. 3 seed

2-A:

1 seed 8-0 vs. 4 seed

2 seed 7-1 vs. 3 seed

1-A:

1 seed 8-0 vs. 4 seed

2 seed 7-1 vs. 3 seed

Does not look much different then 2 years ago, actually looks like 2005 the favorites won more than this year.

The percentage was higher this year in 2 vs. 3 of upsets.

Intresting that in 2005, "the chalk" pretty much played out, except in 4-A.

I don't like the current system, especially with 0-10 teams in the playoffs and #4 seeds that lost 70-0 in the regular season having to travel to the same team to do it again, BUT it is possible that the overall chance of upsets will be greater in the current format, because a team with a legitimate shot at the favorite is tougher, in my opinion, the second time after correcting mistakes and schemes from the first game. Also, I think emotionally that the favorites are less intimidating the second time around.

Again, this is irrelevant in the lopsided matchups. So, to summarize, I think you will see a few more lower seeds winning state-wide, but many more complete blowouts among the top seeds that win.
