2000 Male and 2000 Highlands are 2a and 2b (if I'm not forgetting somebody)

I would like to have seen 2001 Bardstown against some bigger schools.

I don't think that Bardstown team could have hung with the best team of the decade of the Highlands, Boyle County's, Trinity's, Male's, and St.X's.

 

BUT, for my money that was the best small school (1A and 2A) bar none of the past 7 years. That is hard for me to say with the two great Belfry teams that won the state title, and considering some of the NewCath's, Danville's, and Beechwood teams.

 

That Bardstown team was loaded with speed, hit like freight trains, and had an extrememly balanced offense.

I agree...in particular, the 2003 Danville team that beat Beechwood 42-0 in the final, rushing for 500 yards in that game and playing absolutely flawless defense.

 

On the other side, for you NKY'ers, when Beechwood retuned the favor the following year was a great team, small school, big school, doesn't matter.

For the purposes of discussion and bias I have to mention two Boyle teams:

 

2000 and 2001.

 

Both had future College players and stars on them. Both dominated AA and AAA respectively (Lex Cath was the only close games which is a testament to their program then and Hoptown was a good game in '01)

 

Jeff Duggins, Travis Leffew, Jacob Tamme, Taylor Begley, Brodie Overstreet, Matt Quinn, Casey McCoy, among others.

 

2003 went 15-0 and defeated some good teams: Class A Champ Danville, AAA runner-up Highlands (twice), Paducah Tighlman with Hunter Cantwell, Joe Casey and Company (at Paducah).

 

It was a balanced team with Smith at QB and a strong defense.

 

Not sure where any of these rank in the discussion but the talent and the talent they beat say they deserve someplace in the list.
