Bowling Green 35 Warren East 7

Solid win for the Purples...Playing a sound passing team like WE will help them down the road... I can't help but think a Highlands/BGreen showdown is on the horizon come December...

The BGHS defense throttled a solid and exciting Raider offense, and also came up with a nice goal line stand to foil one Raider scoring drive.

At the 11:09 mark in the first qtr, senior QB Trent Steelman hit senior WR D.L. Moore on a 70 yd scoring bomb. Junior K "Automatic Max" Oldham hit the PAT, and BGHS held the early 7-0 lead. The scoring pass allowed Moore to become the first ever BGHS receiver to snag ten or more scoring passes in one season. With 3:08 left in the first qtr, junior RB Tevin Barksdale scored on a six yd run. Oldham knocked the PAT through again, and the Purples ended the first period with a 14-0 lead.

East's Shenard Holton put the Raiders on the board with 3:07 left in the first half with a two yd run. The PAT was good, and the Raiders cut the lead to 14-7. But the Purples offense answered in short order with a nine yd TD scamper by senior RB Jared Carpenter with 1:28 to go in the first half. "Automatic Max" nailed another one, and the first half ended with the Purples up 21-7. Senior LB Caleb Hadden intercepted a Raider pass with about a minute left in the first half, but the Purples were unable to take advantage of the unexpected gift.

Sophomore RB Lavance Anderson took care of the rest of the scoring on the night. He ran one in from four yds out with 2:42 left in the third qtr, and scored on a three yd run with 5:37 left in the game. Oldham hit both PATs, and BGHS had their final margin of 35-7.:D

Man, I'd love to see a Purples-Bluebirds state final. I hope it happens.

So do I.............:ylsuper::ylsuper:

Moore has also set season records for receptions (41) and yards receiving (close to 1000). "Automatic Max" has still missed only one PAT attempt in his career...he is 52 of 53 this year to date. Three more made and he'll pass Will Wade's 1995 performance for #2 all time at BGHS. Steelman should break his own passing yardage record set just last season when they suit up against Marshall Co next week.:D

Guys, I have to admit that I'd love to see that too. However, teams like John Hardin and Owensboro would love to throw a monkey wrench into those plans!;):D

By the way, moral victory, thanx for posting the final score and getting the thread started!:thumb:

You can say that one again Purplehaze the purples sure have a potential back to back weeks against John Hardin and then Owensboro if they survive that one. If I am not mistaken if BG and OHS meet it will be at Rash stadium which would make it even a tougher game.

The Purples keep rolling.
