I heard today that this is the first time a public school has won this region in golf since like 1983 or so... Congrats Raiders! I beileve this is Ryle's 6th straight trip to the state tournament!

It's hard to believe that an 82 qualified for the state tournament.

Something has to be done in regards to the qualifications to get into the state tournament. 82 gets is good enough in this region and a 74 doesn't make it in Region 4 (the Lexington region.) That's just not fair to me.

I have seen the Ryle golf program get stronger and stronger over the years. Still a little shocked that CCH did not make it a closer match. Guess the next round will tell the tale.:dancingpa

How could you do that though? I mean each region is playing separate courses. Im not sure what course the region tourny was at in the Lexington Region, but Boone Links is one of the tougher courses in NKY. It was very tricked up and the greens had just been irrigated about a week ago, as well. I see what your saying, but it would be hard to do...

Because each year there are 2-3 mountain schools that couldnt compete in any of the other regions in the state.They wouldnt get out of 3/4 of the districs in other regions. They get beat by 40 points the first game each year at Rupp Arena. However, they deserving to make it to the state tournament...

Golf is totally different in my opinion. I'm not sure what can be done about it, but it just doesn't seem right that a kid shoots 74 in one region and doesn't make and a kid shoots 82 somewhere else and gets in. This is something the KHSAA will never be able to fix though.

No different in basketball where Scott County the #2 team in the state doesn't qualify for state when they are beat out by Lex Catholic #1 team in the state.

 

On the boys side, remind me when was the last time that a 16th region team won a game in the boys state tournament?

You are right. There's nothing that can be done about it. It's just sad that there's going to be kids at the state tournament shooting 100+ while there are kids that didn't make it that could shoot below 80 with no problem.

As for a solution, I don't think there is a good one. We'll just have to do whatever the folks at the KHSAA office tell us to do and go on....
