Nice opener for The Bucks. Watching the game it looked like every offensive player saw some action and some preseason questions concerning the O received some answers. QB Todd Boeckman (17/23 225YDS 2TD 0INT) looked comfortable in the pocket all day, was able to put the ball on the money, and showed they he could take a hit or two. WR Brian Robiskie (9REC 153YDS) had a breakout game and looks to be the go-to-guy amoung receivers. Brian Hartline saw a fair share of balls and Dane Sanzenbacher showed that he could get open, but needs to catch the ball when it's not for a TD. Maybe he's been watching too many old highlights of Chris Carter. Backup QB's Rob Schoenoft and Antonio Henton also led TD scoring drives. The RB position looks fairly deep with true freshman Brandon Saine (10CAR 42TDS 1TD) opening his career with some explosive runs. I would look to see more of him as the season moves a long; giving breathers for Beanie (16CAR 46YDS 1TD) and Mo Wells. The O-line needs to be more aggressive in the red zone. The ferocious Penguin D was able to stuff several dive and off tackle plays near the goal line.

 

The D was solid as expected; however, DE Lawrence Wilson is probably out for the year with a broken leg.

 

 

All in all a pretty solid effort by every Buckeye as they continue to tune up for conference play. Akron is up next.

I'll be hoenst with you I dont like the Bucks, but they weren't very exciting to watch I didnt think. They couldnt run the ball in the red zone agaisnt Youngstown State.

Their QB was ok but it wont be no were close to last year, their receivers missed several easy passes.

As for the D, they can really stop the run but when they face a D again that can throw it and cut that zone in half they will get it stuck to them.

I can see them winning a lot with their schedule but they wont be in no title hunt this year.

Ohio State will get better each week, imo Tressel was not going to run up big numbers on YSU - he did coach there and won 4 national titles for the Penquins. I honestly don't look for a title game this year either but you can never say never. Look what happened in Ann Arbor yesterday, a lot of people including myself said that never would have happened. . Any team can lose on any given day.

Well, I was in Lexington until this morning cheering for the Cats:thumb: The only thing I saw was highlights on ESPN and read what each of you said. There is no surprises from this game IMO. The bucks will be very strong defensively, they will run the ball well, then when they face teams that can stop the run, it will put pressure on their QB. If he responds then he can carry them pretty far. There seems to be a lot of pairity in FB this year, so with that said 1 loss can take anyone into the title game. I think LSU and USC are the front runners, but a lot of teams will be on thier heels. I personally don't think OSU will be in the title hunt, but anything can happen. Once Petry heals they should have an edge with the kicking game and I give Tressel and edge also against most of the big-10 coaching.

Washington may give them a scare, but they play no one until Week 9...and we all know what happened two years ago when they went into Happy Valley at night....

From the parts of the game that I saw, I think OSU needs to work on their running game the most. I don't know what the issues were but they couldn't seem to get the ground game going at all.

The night game at Purdue will be a tough task. The last time The Bucks played at Purdue they lost (2004).

Sorry (j/k), I just couldn't resist.

One thing me and my best friend (who livses for Ohio State) was talking about, with their schedule they will probably have to go undefeated for a crack at a national title. Because with LSU, USC (sadly), and teams like this, if they loose one game out of a SEC confrence they will get the nod over OSU this year due to strength of schedule.

By the way I love the stadium and stuff but I miss seeing the grass at an OSU game.

It's the first game of the season Boeckman's first real game. Once Wells gets in the flow he will rush for over 1,200 yards. Hartline and Robiskie will both have big numbers. The D is one of the best in the country. Laurinitas is one of the best defensive players in the nation as well as Jenkins. As the season goes on they will get better, and give Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan a run for the Big 10 championship. No one expects Ohio State to win a national championship but a double digit win season after what all they lost isn't to bad either.

This game was kind of a mixed bag if you're a Buckeye fan.

 

On the bright side, you have to be pumped that the question marks turned out well but concerned that what should have been strengths looked awful.

 

Boeckman looked pretty sharp and made good decisions, though he got away with a couple dangerous balls. The young WRs, especially Robiskie, showed everything we thought they were capable of. The defense did what was expexted of them, all while getting a bunch of young guys in there early and often. Saine was the most impressive running back, which is good and bad.

 

On the flipside... You have to be seriously concerned when you can't run the ball with Chris Wells on a team who your line outweighs by an average of 50 pounds. Even more disturbing was that you could tell the coaching staff was going out of their way to establish the run game, especially on those goalline situations, and got absolutely nowhere. I don't like what that may mean when the Big 10 season rolls around. Also, I know Robert Rose and some good young guys are waiting in the wings but I can't believe nobody is making a bigger deal about the loss of Lawrence Wilson.

 

Overall though, you don't really want to nitpick a 30 point win too much, especially considering what happened elsewhere.
