I love the way you dismiss it with the "competitive" comment ... bottom line, it sure seems like he would rather play for his longtime team than attend a meeting that many of the details could be handled over the phone or in the near future.

This shouldn't even be something we should have to de talking about. American Legion needs to make some changes in dates of tournaments. American Legion is the only summer legue still playing for this age group. Everyone else is done.

Not only was the meeting madatory Shaw had to go to, I'm sure the Louisville coach thinks he has thrown enough innings over the Spring and Summer and would like him to rest that arm a little. I know they weren't to happy after he throw 8 innings went to the field and then came back in and throw the 10th at the Legion State tornament.

Who wouldn't rather be playing than conditioning and unless someone from the Louisville staff has discussed with you personally what will be going on, how can you be so confident it could be handled over the phone and diss it off as not being all that critical?

Going by what the player in question has said the meeting entails, I'll stay with my position.

If Paducah were to advance, then how much longer would he be out of Louisville? One, possibly two more weeks. That's a lot of time to sacrifice for an incoming freshman and that is a lot of time to expect the coaching staff to excuse.

Maybe, but every other college involved with players on Paducah's team has agreed to let their players finish their Legion schedule. That includes junior colleges and Division I programs.

It kind of appears that Shaw has decided that the "tough" approach may not be the wisest route to go afterall.

Shaw basically has no choice, and no one is suggesting he take the "tough" approach.

 

I simply feel that the Louisville staff should lessen its hard-line approach. But it's their team, and they can do what they want with it.

Well, some people would beg to differ. Personally, I would consider a chance to lead my team to the American Legion World Series a pretty compelling reason.

Besides, you were adamant earlier that Paducah was not your team and Shaw was not your pitcher. You sure seem to be all engrossed and all knowing in something you claim as to not being either a part of, or to have a vested interest in.

I know Gabriel Shaw and I spoke to him about the situation, which almost certainly makes me more knowledgable about it than you.

Blue Springs (Mo.) vs. League City (Tex.)

Paducah vs. Bryant (Ark.)

 

Bryant is 3-0 in the tournament. The other teams have a loss apiece.

My question here is just who actually makes the calls and runs the team anyways? Do the players? Paducah's coach was tossed in the 2nd inning, just as he was ejected in a previous game against Ashland earlier in the summer in the 2nd inning.

 

Well that doesn't make a whole lot of sense because he headed straight to the bullpen in the 9th inning way before Paducah even had a chance in the 10th. Remember here that the game was basicly over. Ashland had two outs and two strikes on the potential last batter of the game with a 5-3 lead in the top of the 9th and he was still throwing in the pen before Hall pitched the bottom of the 9th. Remember here that Paducah scored both runs that tied the game after two outs and two strikes on this batter, (who should have struck out due to a terrible call by the plate umpire BTW). The fact is that Hall was much more effective than Shaw to begin with. Shaw had been hit hard and hit often. If this would have been the case why take Shaw out to begin with? The whole thing just didn't make any sense to me.

I guess I'm a little confused on what you are trying to get at then. It seemed to me that you were trying to say that that is what the player should be telling his college coach. I guess now you are saying that that is not what you are trying to say? Are you saying that players other than Louisville players shoud take this stance? I'm really not understanding here.

 

Again , for the 3rd time I ask, if Paducah should by fortune advance further in the tournament should all of the college coaches with all the players involved excuse every player in question from their fall particpation for the duration of the post season regardless of the time period that it would take away from their own teams? IMO,that just seems a little unfair to the rest of the players on the college teams who chose to play on summer teams that ended their seasons in time to comply with the college schedules. I guess you are trying to say that American Legion players should be given special preferential treatments because they are playing in an organization who does not seem conscience enough to avoid potential conflicts with every college program in the country?

 

Tell me exactly how much time, in your opinion, these players should be excused westsider?
