Bell County/Johnson Central scrimmage

Featured Replies

Log Mountian Boy I am a JC fan and I was there and I agree with you 100%. Bell has an awesome kicker and an outstanding QB. If #33 is a freshman he is going to be a great back! Bell impressed me with thier speed. If this group is this young they will be hard to handle for many years.

I think JC needs to fill some lineman postions that were lost due to graduation. The reverse half back pass is a sign of the times. Most teams know of Shawn Grimm now and he will have a big target on him. JC will need to be able to mix it up some. I thought Dials and Welch provided us some targets on the pass.

This scrimmage was as intense and hard hittting as any I have seen in a while. Both defences I thought were very good. Even with holes to fill, look for both of these teams to be in the hunt late in the year.

The roster has 6 seniors, Bell may have the best kicker in the state. I was impressed with the running backs for Bell. # 15 and #33 someone said that the #33 was a freshman. That is hard to believe. # 85 for bell and #67 was all over the field defensively.

The Bell kicker is only a JUNIOR this year. Ray Guy's ProKicker.com camp ratings for this summer have been finalized for all thirty-two cities. Merrick is ranked 20th in nation for all kicker/punters attending their camps. Their national ranking for the recruiting class (Seniors) of 2008 and the Junior Class of 2008 were posted this week. Merrick is ranked for all juniors: #2 kicker/punter; #2 punter/kickoff specialist; #4 punter; #8 kicker. On another thread someone said that McNutt of Mayfield was best in state and that he attended a Chris Boniol kicking camp in Delaware for a week. Bell's kicker was also at that camp. There were 10 high school kickers and 9 current college kickers at the camp. Merrick won the final day competition hitting 10/11 field goals from thirty-50+ yds.. He then was put up against the college division winner. It is my understanding that the sudden death competiton went several rounds before the college kicker edged Bell's kicker out at 53 yards. Both McNutt and Merrick represented Kentucky well. Other HS kickers were from all over U.S. The kicking game can provide a real edge.

I will be going and will update tonight. I probably won't have any stats, but I can atleast give a rundown.

Traditionally Bell does not show much in scrimmages. They run about the same 10 or 12 plays the entire game. I don't know if Johnson Central does that or not, but tonight probably won't be a good indicator for the 2 teams.

That sounds like Bell in the regular season:lol:

But it works!

I know it seems that way, but Bell's running game is much more complex than that and they throw the ball more now.

Made the 1 hour drive up to check out Bell. I was impressed with both teams. Bell seems to be alittle out of sorts on offense but I am sure Dudley will get it going. On Defense they looked good with some speed, with Tom Greer out of the loop who will be running the defense?

I would never put Coach Greer completely out of the loop, but Randy Frasier and Fred Hoskins seem to be the ones running the defense. Frasier is new to the staff. I heard he has a lot of experience, but I don't know where really.

Frazier was a HC at Cumberland back in the 90's with a few stops over in Tn. as HC. I think he is coaching RB's and LB's. Talked to friend of mine at Bell and he said Hoskins was calling the defense.

Both guys seem to be doing a great job. Coach Hoskins has always been a hard worker and so is the rest of the staff for that matter.
