The Professor
The new consolidated school in Harlan County will open next year, 2007-2008. I know Cumberland will be a very good team this year, and Cawood and Evarts always have great athletes. How much talent will the 3 schools graduate this year, and what will be back for the new school, which IMO should be a bearcat to deal with in the 13th. I know we are concentrating on the upcoming season right now, but someone asked me about this the other day and that is why I am asking.
CoachJAZ
Im not 100 percent positive on all players but i know Cawood will contribute Josh Caldwell, and Cumberland will have two guards who will recieve alot of playing time this yr Zach Blanton and Paul David Creech. There are others from these two teams that i am leaving out that have lots of talent but cannot place there names.Harlan County High school will contend for the region if the players can come together. HDE
Cawood sophomores Brandon McCoun, T.J. Green and Michael Mosley are very solid. Mikey Hamlin and Philip Ely will be on the varsity as freshmen. Kyle Hogue and Tyrek Simmons will play a lot as sophomores for Cumberland.
HDE
That should be Michael Moses for Cawood. Eric Miller, of Cumberland, is a talented freshman. Caldwell and McCoun are both 6-4 or 6-5, and they should have several good guards. They don't have as many great long-range shooters as they've had in the past though. Paul David Creech, Cumberland Junior could be the top shooting guard on that first team.

HDE can probably give some estimated numbers on this. There chances of being competitive would be better in 5A I would think, not to mention the unreal amount of traveling they could have to do as a 6A school just to play district games. sidelinecoach
This should really produce one strong athletic program but so many times the athletics do not live up to the hype after a few years. Best of luck
HDE
It sounds like there's less than 1,200 now, so it should be 5A. Cawood probably had more students in the 1970s. Creech is a good player with a lot of potential. His shooting is a little erratic now though. Creech and McCoun should develop into good shooters. harlancobears
Looking forward to see the Harlan County Black Bears in 2008. Enrollment should be between 1200 and 1300 students. The building is almost 60% completed at this time.
Old School Dr.
Josh Caldwell will give the first Blackbear team a very good low post veteran to build around, and with some of the good looking young kids from Cawood and Cumberland and I think a couple from Evarts that will compete for some PT should have a very solid team. The future looks very good on the horizon also, with an Excellent group of 7th graders around the county that will be really good in a few years.
